Boar brush break in?

I have 2 boar brushes, a Semogue Owners Club and an Omega B&B Essential boar. I've not found that neither required a break in period per se. They did get a bit softer with use, but they worked well and felt good from the first use.

I have an omega 49 which took a good few weeks to break in, but now its so so soft! I've also picked up a smog 620 which is proving very tricky to break in, just absorbs lather!

I don't get it honestly...I have 3 omega boar brushes, the49 included, and all breaking in they ever took for me was 1 soak in hot water and tea tree oil, followed by one, that is 1, palm lathering. That's it.

I have a Semogue 1438 I believe that I bought a few years back and it's been a SOB to break in!! I have used it maybe 20 times or so and it's STILL stiffer than a Marine on shore leave!! I had loaned it out to fella recently, but it's barely breaking in. I recently lathered it for a half hour or better and let it sit two times full of lather for several hours. Hopefully, this will help. It's a damn good brush, just too damn stiff!!

I think you'll find that over time it'll break more in. 1 lather is not enough for it to reach it's potential.

Sorry to resurrect this thread. Soon to be receiving a restored Ever Ready brush with a Zenith boar. Seen some YouTube videos of soaking in water for 24 hours in the fridge, take out lather, rinse & repeat a couple more times.

Anyone tried this technique? Or any "new" ideas?

A Zenith boar is not like Omega or Semogue, no need to try forum remedies, just use it once and you are good to go. Only problem with mine was shedding. Took weeks to settle. If loft is a bit high Zenith brushes tend to be floppy but the 24 mm unbleached is just fine.

Anyone know if it is possible to buy Zenith knots or the only way is buying brushes and removing knots from handles?

I'll ask the guy who has restored my brush.

Edit

@Nisse i'ev been informed you can't buy the knot separately & you have to buy a brush & extract the knot. Also the knot has a black plastic collar around it. So the actual knot size is smaller than advertised. Buy a 24mm for a 22mm knot, Same with a 26mm brush for the 24mm knot

I have noticed 24/22 mm discrepancy in a bleached knot but my unbleached is true to size. And when I tested to remove a 24 mm Zenith knot it proved very well glued compared to the 26 mm Zenith that did not put up a fight at all. Ideally I would like a 26 mm unbleached Zenith, true to size, hardly glued at all :)
