Best and Worst DE Blade

Best: Personna Lab Blue / Med Prep*, Perma-sharp, Polsilver SI. Honourable mention for 7 o'Clock Yellow

Worst: Bolzano (rough), Israeli Personna (blunt), Derby Extra (blunt). Dishonourable mention for Voskhod (blunt)

* In essence the same blade (Med Preps being sanitised)

I like: Personna Lab Blue, Gillette 7 o'clock Black, Gillette Nacet, Gillette Platinum

I quite like: BiC Platinum Chrome, Rapira Swedes, Rapira Super Stainless, Gillette Silver Blue

I don't like: Feather, Derby, ZAZA, Astra Green and Blue, Gillette Yellow, Gillette Green

I'd really rather forget Jewel blades and Lasers (fairly sure they were made from wood painter silver!)

I really love vintage Wilkinson Swords.

The Tian Li blades I bought are easily the worst blades I have ever used. It was like scraping the stubble off my face with the lid of a can that had been left outside in the garden for a few decades.

All the other blades mentioned in this thread for best and worst I've managed to get good shaves out at some point, a few others I'd prefer over others though. Of the 40 odd blades I've tried Derby blades aren't the sharpest but are smooth enough, but the Personna Tomy (Boots own brand) are truly terrible, an odd combination of not being very sharp or smooth.

I find it difficult to pick out the blades I find to be best. I have a reasonable selection of a number different brands and I pick them according to whichever razor I will use, certain blades seem to work better according to the razor.

That was my next question!

Opinions vary, I use both and vacillate about whether they're the same or the meds are slightly better. Common theory is that they're the same with the meds having an additional cleaning step however as they're not sterile anyway I have my doubts. Someone on B&B posted photos taken under a microscope which appeared to show a different grind, but people disagreed on that too.

What I can say for definite is that to me they're very close and both are excellent.

I have never tried Med Preps , but I find the Lab Blues excellent.

Thank you Chris. Thanks to the generous souls on here I'll be able to judge for myself.
