Benefits of SE over DE?

I am often sorely tempted to try an SE but wonder if there are any end result benefits over my usual DE?

Oddly I passed on the only SE I have owned to a TSR member who has helped me out in the past. In this case an Eveready.

Would my Shaving life be better, cheaper or anything else ending in 'er'?
I can only speak from my personal experience, and that only with vintage razors.

My issues with SE razors are that (with vintage at least) they come in two flavors. Gem/Eveready and Schick. Blade choice is very limited. I have all the micromatics and later gems, and they pretty much all shave the same...except for the open comb micromatic. It's an aggressive little bugger.

Schicks, I just don't like them. They shave fine, but they feel very light and are cheap feeling. If you can find them, the A, B, and C models are hefty and nice, but a pain to load.

I stopped going down the vintage single edge rabbit hole when I found the G.E. Jones shake sharp razors. The bakelight handled (first generation) is light and aggressive, the second generation metal handled ones are not aggressive. They shave just like a Gem SE, and best of all, they take DE blades.

The original patent showed them using both DE and SE (gem) blades. I'm not sure why they dropped that functionality in the production model.

I love my Schicks, and on the fence about my Ever Ready. Schick wise, I have an E and an M1 adjustable. The lightness and smaller size provides ease of manoeuvrability, and the thicker blade provides a better quality shave.

As already mentioned earlier, the blades last much longer, but even with the many extra shaves you get, DE still works out cheaper.

It's how we all sell it to ourselves in the early days, and then use “man maths” to justify when it gets more expensive [emoji23]

There are far more expensive hobbies e.g: sailing, precious metal collecting, and diamond sculpting.
Okay, I might have made the last two up.

So guess it is about time to discover if there are any benefits to SE vs DE so I have just ordered a Razorock Hawk V2. Seemed the cheapest way in to 'new' and at least it gives me the opportunity to taste without dashing out too much..........that can come later

Thanks for all your inputs and at least they said, 'try it'

I am in two minds: I went through a long spell last year and early this year, mainly shaving with SE. That said recently rotated more DE razors into my routine.

I agree with @Kypros Christodoulides - SE blades more rigid; less vibration. I find a much closer, irritation free shave, compared with DE razors. I love my Colonial General (SS) and (Alu). The SS shades it for me, between the 2.

I find SE shaving gives me better results, albeit there is not much in it. That said, I find DE shaving more fun - more variation in the range of DE razors and blades.

And now I guess I have to get lost in the wonderful world of SE blades. Ordered some Kai Captain as a 'let us get started' offering. Plus the name does compliment my job

I have sensitive skin and find SE blades give me a much more comfortable shave. In fact I've sold off all my DE razors and blades, and haven't looked back.

I like that the choice of SE blades is more limited than DE. Less decisions to make! And they last 3-4 times longer, so have to change blades less frequently.

I went DE then SE then SR, cursed with a short span of attention but good thing with SR is honing and stropping seemingly taking forever to master (at least for me)
