Bean recommendation

I`ve been an instant coffee drinker for over 40yrs, now looking to move over to the good stuff. My current tastes are a strong Milicano/Dark Roast, Alta Rica etc but I now want beans similar in taste if possible. Any coffee experts out there can offer any pointers?
I`ve got a Dualit conical burr grinder winging its way in the post and a stove-top espresso pot waiting to be used.

Many thanks, Daz.

Lidl do a few origin type beans.
I like there gold version.
I usally us Costco Columbian their others are to dark for me..
On the roaster front I use rave and hasbean blends and single origin
Also taylors do quite a range available in supermarkets

You won't find fresh beans that taste like your instant coffee - you are about to go up several notches. I use the same grinder.

Have a look at York Coffee Emporium - they grade all their beans in terms of strength and roast.

Oh! btb - wash your grinder grounds bin in fabric softener. Rinse thoroughly,of course. Helps stop electrostatic build up and the grounds clinging to the sides. Tips out more cleanly.

Thanks for that, just had a look on the York site, looks like a selection pack will be ordered later, thanks.

Want a strong powerful, dark roast coffee, try these beans. They have given me some of the best espresso I have extracted

I'm going to be looking for some beans.
For Christmas my wife bought me a vintage manual grinder and a couple of bags of Sainsburys fairtrade beans, Columbian and Kenyan.
I put the grinds in a Bodum coffee press.
I loved the Columbian, but the Kenyan almost made me sick and was thrown out. I had no idea there would be such a stark contrast in flavours.
Only problem I will have is the small quantities I need. A single back has lasted me from Christmas until now and its still not empty.
I don't want to commit to a 1kg bag and find I don't like it.

And why would you? I always buy 200g bags of a new bean I want to try. I use YCE but other places use 250g bags. Buy a variety of 200g bags of beans - hone your search for "your bean".

I've been experimenting with a new roaster of late...Colombia hulia was delish and they sell interesting sampler packs.

She missed the best ones then - Sainsbury's Tanzanian Peabody are by far the best of the single origin beans from the taste the difference range. Pretty much always on offer too....
