August Acquisitions

I was looking forward to seeing what you thought of the yaqi adjustable. Is it me or does the blade gap look bigger at 1 compared to 6. Could be I'm not looking at the captions to the correct picture

It's the Picture, it runs from 0 (6), to N (3) then up to 6. It looks wicked.

Jesus that adjustable looks lethal. Like shaving with a Stanley knife.:ROFLMAO:

Yip, probably better off shaving with the blade stuck between 2 lolly sticks using matchsticks as blade gap spacers.

A Tibam antique brass handle arrived today. I think it looks interesting with my Carbon razor heads. It looks good with the Mokume-gane brass head, but I'm not so sure about it with the Damascus.

New shaving bowl...
I wanted a heavy copper bowl but couldn't afford a Captain's choice so I did some googling and came up with this.
It's actually a Tibetan 'Singing Bowl'. It comes in a great cloth case with its own cushion and a small wooden mallet and incense sticks.
You basically ring it with the mallet. You can get different tones etc by putting water in it. It's a meditation thing.

I just wanted it as a shaving bowl...I'll meditate while shaving, I guess!

In my research I did find someone who had already tried one for this purpose and it seemed to work fine.

The relief pattern and hammered interior should provide the perfect surface for lathering.

It's 10cm in diameter on the top inside rim and 12cm at its widest, and 5cm deep. I reckon it will be fine with some of my smaller brushes, but it's wider than some of my other posts and bowls.

It's made of a mix of various metals but primarily brass and copper and it is made in Tibet.

It will of course feature in a SOTD later today...I hope it works out!

If you run the mallet/stick thing - around the outside of the rim - slowly - and continuously in contact - the bowl will produce a droning note - and it will start to vibrate in your hand - which is deeply hypnotic - the 'singing' in the name - as you correctly say - they are meditation aids - cheers - I.

Yes, there are I believe 5 ways of making the bell 'sing' and you can change the tones by adding different levels of water. It was this latter fact that made me consider it would withstand the rigours of wet shaving too:)
