Arko Soap any good?

Beware of the Arko sticks

Poor Arko soap.. I have always found it to be really easy to get a really good lather going with it which was fantastic when I first moved away from cartridge systems and gel.

I always have a couple of sticks pressed into a bowl kicking about as the scent to me is very nostalgic.
I suppose it's a bit of a "marmite" scent really, in that it certainly polarised opinions.

Have just tried Arko and is a very good soap . Much better than the Pamolive soap for me as it is kinder to my skin. I think it's forgotten that Turkey has a low cost of living, and tgere are no expensive scents to add to the cost.

Tried an Arko stick for the first time yesterday. When you open the package it does have a strong smell but it wasn't unpleasant. To me it's just a fresh, clean aroma a bit like lemongrass. In use, it doesn't seem as strong as when you're huffing it straight from the packet. I like it. Don't be put off by some of the negative comments. You've really got to try it for yourself.

REALLY easy to whip up copious amounts of lather. I had to chuck most of it away. Didn't feel like my skin was dried out after the shave.

Cheap 'n cheerful in the very best way. I could happily use this day in day out.

If you hold a stick up to your ear you can actually hear it laughing at more expensive, more pretentious, luxury soaps.

Arko is a great soap. I don't know what's wrong with these guys' noses but it does not smell anything like urinal pot cake nor citronella. And neither lemon. If any of your mother or grandmother have ever washed clothes by hand and used the Marseille Soap that is exactly what it smells like. I have yet to find a urinal pot cake that smell like Arko. I would love it though :D

As with everything in wet shaving, some people love it and others don't. I'm in the former camp. Memories of holidaying in Turkey and getting a Turkish shave before a night out are instantly brought back when using this. Performs well and for the price, everyone should have it in their den.

Good to see an Arko thread revived.

I'd bought a few puck of Arko a few years back and used the first and not really enjoyed it that much back then (and it eventually went rancid!) and the other puck got pushed to the back of my cupboard and I forgot about it until I recently saw the Arko August thread on B&B. I'm fairly sure I didn't really enjoy that much before as I wasn't loading enough soap (like the pitfalls of using MWF) but once I got that sorted it was difficult to get a bad lather after that and I've enjoyed using it so much I am thinking of getting some Arko shaving sticks. It produced a delightfully thick, slick, cushioning lather and even though the scent might not be for everyone, it's one that washes off your skin with the lather. I don't find it to be drying as well.

IMO, there's a reason why soaps like Arko, Palmolive, Proraso, Tabac and so on are regarded as classics as they are all excellent performers.
