Anyone Work For Tiscali / Pipex?

I don't but having been involved in 3 counts of Tiscalisation of internet connections, I hope you have limitless patience.

Case 1: Neighbour told he can't have a problem - they can see his router (despite the fact that the entire house wiring was disconnected). Took 4 days of badgering to get it fixed.

Case 2: Same neighbour now with 8128k sync and no errors getting a roaring 500kbit downloads. Strangely was fixed entirely by moving from Tiscali. Now enjoying 6Mbit+ after a week or two of inaction by Tiscali and a migration.

Case 3: The local Church of Scotland vicar/priest/preacher/whatever-they're-called - 8128k sync, 54kbit downloads. Blamed on his router. Took 4 different routers, got a rock solid 8128k sync in each case and a similarly rock solid 54kbit download. Took unreverendly words at the tech support for the fault within Tiscali to be acknowledged, time given to rectify, Trading Standards involved, more unecclesiastical language and a migrate away.

I got a MAC code & signed up for pipex. They said I was transfereed from Tiscali home to Pipex Business, so I set up my modem to the new login & everthing was fine & I set up a few Pipex email boxes etc. They did screw up my phone for a few days but everything with the internet was fine.

Over the weekend I lost my connection, so I assumed it was my linksys modem as they are crap. I got an edimax modem but no joy. It turns out the migration never happened I am am still on Tiscali, even though my login was changed & they have been charging me for the pipex service. So now I have to get a new code & hope my Tiscali account is not cancelled untill I am migrated.

But if I was not actually with pipex, how can I have logged in with my pipex username & why would it suddenly stop working if my old Tiscali account still works ? :? :? :? :?

So I assume I must have been on Pipex but they deleted my account or similar.

Hopefully they can fast track my migration but I won't hold my breath.

I had a similar nightmare when I moved house, previous owner had Tiscali, I ordered Pipex took 3 goes at switching service, each one with a 3 week cycle time.I reckon they will need to give you a new MAC code and you will have to wait for the system to roll round to it again.Pipex and Tiscali are now owned by the same mob so they really have no excuse to mess you around.Funnily enough Pipex never actually changed my service, they billed me monthly but I always stayed routed through the tiscali network. In the end I switched back for a better price and options.

Unfortunately PIPEX business is the best option for me, but I will pay more with another provider if I have to.

Pipex, tiscali, home call & toucansurf are now all owned by the car phone warehouse so there aren't many options.

The competition commission do they actually do, anything?

Except that the mob concerned are TalkTalk... so in a sense you're right, they have no excuse, it's obvious why it's happening

Depends what your needs are? I work from home full time and my sole need is that it stays up and performant - so by paying a slight premium over what I was paying before and getting garbage from Nildram (went pear-shaped when Pipex took over, and got worse when Tiscali took over the rest according to my colleagues who didn't run when they could), also got the added bonus of being on a "business" package so get 832k upload as well - which is nice.

I had to get another mac code from tiscali & it's going to take another week to get switched over, again. Luckily the Tiscali service is still working, for now. So I can still send out shavey items for the moment ;)

I refer the honourable gentleman to the answer from earlier :D

Sounds like the haven't changed one bit Paul.I hope it goes through this time.Like I say mine took 3 cycles.

So who are you with HM? I am currently with an entanet reseller (ADSL24) moved from Eclipse and find they are ok and seem able to action anything I have asked them quickly. I am lucky in that I am close to the exchange so can get some screaming high sppeds when the traffic shaping goes off.

I could pay extra for a business package but don't use it ofen enough to merit it.

Sorry to hear your woes Paul, it is very frustrating when they mess you around like that, hope you get it sorted soon.

I was with Enta (via Falconnet) - no issues at all with Falconnet - I don't know anyone in the real world that has had an issue with their Enta reseller, but when Enta botched their changeover to (thinks) IPSC and there was no communication of the issues and we had a weekend where I got better performance from a GSM phone used as a 9.6k modem than via broadband synced at 8128k...

Since I use it for work to avoid a 120 mile daily commute, I cast around for other alternatives and came up with Merula (they used to run an all-you-can-eat service but got rid of the 'bad boys' so was getting great reviews for speed/reliability) - they offered to match the Enta "old" packages in every material fashion and touch wood have been nothing short of perfect since day 1 (there was a small glitch early on day 1, but when I called to report it, I was put through to the actual technical man and he fixed it there and then, thanking me for my packet traces etc for helping him pinpoint the issue). 1 month contract (I'd never sign up for more these days) so if it goes pear-shaped I can leave within a month.

I am now online with PIPEX. My internet went off this late this morning so I called Tiscali & they said my account had been deleted on the 7th???????

So I called Pipex & they have re-activated my orignal account, the one they said never existed

Well at least I'm now online & I don't think I will bother to complain.

You too scared in case it leave you in disconnected land? can totally understand. Glad you are sort of working now, it is almost like a punishment for complaining when they start jerking you about like that.

In my house (with two girls) when the internet goes down (which is very seldom) it is my fault and I should "Fix it", it is nearly as bad as no hot water.

It's the same here - although there's only the other half that screams (at the moment - son only screams if the NAS starts juddering when he's watching Top Gear or Top Gear Australia)... makes it blooming hard to plan upgrades of the IOS on the router  and the acceptance test can be fraught too if Cisco put out a flaky release, I get it in the neck (of course it's my fault for buying cheap rubbish  )
