My ugly 18 years old Lorus Kinetic, the glass is damaged and scratched but it is still water tight. A bit like those sealed car batteries, no service needed tho I am not sure how many years a capacitor in a £30 watch can survive.

It's a Seiko at heart should be good for a few more years yet. Movements and batteries mass engineered in Japan. Lorus are cheaper as use cheaper case and strap materials. The integrity of the movement should be up to Seiko standards. Seiko service centre should be able to fix it up if it means a lot to you.

Yea I bought a watch back remover for a few quid on fleabay. No need to go to a jeweller and pay £20. Managed to get my Citizen Ecodrive back up wnd running after a day on a window ledge but still fancy a 5.

These watches look lovely as well though no idea about reliability: Jianin-Seagull from China. Quite expensive for Chinese stuff but look solid. Jinhao showed me that China can produce a decent quality pen so maybe these are pretty good. Can't afford one at the moment though.

I need a new daily wear watch and have seen these on Ebay for £60. They have great write ups for reliability and value for money and made in Malaysia I believe. Seems a lovely watch for the money. I did buy a cheap Russian Vostok Auto for the same price a while ago tough and the movement seized after a year.

Anyone can give me the lowdown?
Great watches. Bought mine from Amazon for £59. Not experienced any loss of time, and really like the heritage of these watches. If you visit The Urban Gentry Youtube channel here, some very good info & reviews about the Seiko 5. Plus, Just One More Watch here give's a good overview of the Seiko 5.

For the money, I think they are a great watch. Smart enough for work, and robust enough for everyday use.

Slightly off topic, but why do manufacturers insist on putting a 'day' window?
It's the only thing I don't like about my black monster.

The date is more than enough.

If you are in such a state, that you don't know what day it is, you are hardly going to be worried what time it is.

Well ended up and pulled the trigger as my Citizen eco drive has died again despite leaving it out in the light for two days. It is 16 years old but that "never needs a battery" stuff is bs. Never buy into marketing cant folks.
