Well Gents the winter's here whats better than a whisky and a game of chess........

I've seen a couple of old posts, and wondered whether there was any interest in playing online?

If anyone fancies it, let me know? if we get a fair few i'll see if we can do a tournament or something.

Regards

Mark

The frustration and the losses are somehow crazily addictive for a newbie like me. Chess is a fascinating game. However i do like playing face to face better. Sadly a lot of people playing online cheat with chess engines.

I played in the school club but this was at Primary school and it was more like "horsey can jump over the prawns" level.

Every time I play I get a funny taste in my mouth, I think my increase brain usage is the reason. All this "Ah thats the Copenhagen opening move" stuff is too off putting. It's like you have to study every game not just the bloody rules!

There is a certain amount of study, however exploring ideas with a friend over a whiskey is just as entertaining....

Have new year to all

True i see no point in it apart from egos and wanting to win at all times....

I gave up chess 10 years ago because everyone playing was led by databases not creative thinking.

Happy to play online with anyone, no engines (honest).

@markmonaghan Sure I don't use chess.com much but I use Chesstime(android and apple) and SocialChess (apple) if you have those :) I am absolutely shite though so if you are good it won't be much of a challenge.

The addiction is the belief one day i might win. I much prefer a friendly game down the pub though than online with the ratings obsession. Social lets you play unrated games which is good. I learned down the pub and only play socially: no clubs.

I dont have those im afraid so not sure what to suggest.

I dont play for ratings any more, i play for fun and the aesthetic value of the game.

Mailing moves on here may be tiresome for you, but dont know any other reasonably quick way to play.

Let me know what you think....

Well Chess Time is free on any smart phone and is a great little app. I would recommend it (It is rated but hang that i don't worry about that: met some nice people on it) and Social Chess is great if you have an apple device. If you really cannot get those I could meet you on chess.com if you are on there. Mail chess is a little tiresome but we could do that as a last resort :)

Maybe this?
