Any views on 3 razors I've been considering?

I've recently been tempted by the following 3 razors:
1. Parker Variant
2. Rockwell 6s
3. Rex Ambassador

Anyone got any direct experience of any or all of these in comparison with the EJDE89 or the Merkur 34C?
I'm basically after an adjustable that offers a setting or that is close to the smoothness of the EJ/Merkur...you know, nothing too aggressive!

Any comments would be appreciated(y)

Gillette Slim.

Ive had the Parker Vairant and the Rex Ambassodor and on setting 1.5-2 should give you the same feel as your 89 or 34 they are both good razors but I have always heard good things about the Rockwell 6s, if I may make a suggestion though you won't go far wrong with a Karve with plates A. B. & C . Or just A & B if you didn't want to explore any further than really mild and smooth. :) P.

Thanks, Blademonkey...I'll look into the Karve as well (y)

I've tried all three and the 6S would be the closest to what you want followed by the Variant although I preferred my Progress. If you are looking for a similar shave why not just stick with what you have?

Here's where I have to admit to having no actual need to get one of these, but simply have a desire to have one. I know, I know, I'm mad and carefree and zany, but, hey, in this topsy turvy world we now live in why the hell not throw caution to the wind and buy something for absolutely no other reason than...it's there?

I didn't want to sound like a @&ӣ by saying that but I thought if you were trying something new, get something that shaved differently. I'd say if you don't mind the fixed nature of the 6S go for that, if you want the ability to change easily mid shave a progress or variant would be better suited. The Rex didn't live up to the price for me. Seemed to lack any difference in shave adjusting up to 3 and then was rough on any setting above three.

You didn't sound like a @&"£ at all... Your common sense just scared the whiskers out of me! ;) The 6S does seem to get almost universal acclaim and my experience of adjustables with twisty knob things haven't been great. While the EJ89 is superb, I have this nagging feeling that I might be missing something even better...oh hang on a minute, that's sex I'm thinking of...doh!

Has to be the Varinant then....easy and quick to turn it on!

The correct forum answer usually is buy all three . Do it

I'm a Merkur Progress fan. I'm assuming it shaves like the Parker Variant since the Progress head was 'copied' for the Variant.

I have the 6C and you'll definitely find an 89 type shave among the plates. I also have the Ambassador which is an exceptional razor. It's much more assertive than the 89 which is something to be mindful of but it shaves fantastically.
