Any blades you won't buy again?

I've never been a Derby fan, and the only ones I'd used were some freebies. However, when the Derby Premiums came out, and had reasonably good reviews, I bought 100.

I've just finished 3 days with one in my Blackland Dart. The blade shaves OK, and seems well-suited to that particular razor (as, I find, are Astra SPs). However, when I came to take it out of what was a pristine stainless razor, there was rust everywhere. This was definitely the blade rusting, and nothing else, and I don't think they really merit the description "stainless". I can't be bothered with taking one of these out after each shave, washing and drying it, so next adventure with this Derby will be blade in->shave->throw.

Astra Superior Platinum. YMMV
Certainly does. I quite like the SPs and also the blue SS blades in my more "demanding" razors like the Dart and a couple of slants, as they seem to shave well whilst also taking a bit of the "bite" out of these gadgets. They're certainly not at the top of my list of preferred blades, such as Nacets, other Russians, some of the Gillettes.

Not really my style, but if I wanted to go in for designer stubble or even a Royal Navy full set, then I'd either shave with a butter knife or use a ZaZa blade, which seems to benefit from having entirely square edges. They do come in rather beautiful packaging, which reminds me somehow of a cigarette paper; JOB, perhaps.

In what way do you feel the Rockwell shave is crappy?

The entire razor is too heavy making it uncomfortable to hold/use, the head is too bulky and cumbersome, I strongly disliked the geometry of it (I also dislike 99% of TTO's FWIW, probably some correlation as I get on best with slimline heads) two of the three included plates were too mild, and I like mild razors!

All these factors combined equalled a "crap" shave... Sure it shaved but it was neither comfortable or remotely enjoyable. As said previously this was just my experience, they are universally praised as superb so I'm fully aware and happy to be in a minority of 1

I bought a load of different sample packs to try after ditching the Derby Professionals I got for free with my first shavette. Among them was Feather which I like and have used more of than any other. Yesterday morning I put a Gillette Platinum in but decided I didn't have enough time to do the job before leaving for work. I took it up again later that evening and forgot what blade was in there and was trying to figure why it was a bloody struggle. I've got limited experience I'll admit but the difference was immediately obvious. They won't be in my shave box again.

I highly doubt the Yellows were fakes, they were from a reputable online shaving store. I've tried 3 of these blades spread over some time and they produced the exact same result each time. Yes, they're sharp but my face looked a mess after using them. At this point someone will usually chip in something about technique, but the fact that 2 days after a Yellow shave I would shave with another blade, same gear, same prep, same angles etc, and have a far less red face afterwards, speaks for itself. It's my face, and they don't work for me. So I stand by what I said in #267. Simples!

I just got 50 from "a reputable online shaving store" and they look the same as the existing packet I have - two big glue spots in the centre. I'm getting good shaves with the single one I've tried. Here's hoping it continues.

I'm scrutinising my own face now....... feel a bit like Lord Nelson when I say "I see no red"...

Finally tried a Voskhod today in my iKon OC. From what I've read these seem to be a real marmite blade. Another blade that feels fine during the shave (I guess (that's) the lather doing its job) but gives a little burn right after and left my neck and lower cheeks looking like Freddy Krueger right in time for Halloween. Took it easy and didn't do an ATG pass, just a 3 pass WTG & then XTG in both directions. So not like I was going for BBS and paid the price. Could not believe how long it took my face to settle down after that shave. I know people say to try another in case it was a duff blade, but I'm not sure I want to punish myself with one again!
