This is all rather disconcerting - I was always led to believe that the Scottish definition of a homosexual is a man who prefers the pursuit of women to drinking, fighting and waking up in a pool of one's own ejecta.

Sounds like a good night out to me, and where can I get this ejecta stuff? Do you need to drink a couple of pints of it before does any damage? and will it help me win the fight?

You can have some of mine if you want!

after using your Alum let it dry on your face for a while before applying anything else like balm or aftershave.

pat Alum dry when finished and let it air dry, i put mine in the airing cupboard

That's what I was looking for, before my heterosexuality was called into question ;)

I rest mine in a tapered beaker so the alum-rich water collects in the bottom and evaporates leaving the alum behind - in 40 years I might recover enough to make an extra block

Thanks again for the blades and the alum. Gillette Bleue Extra are the bizzo in my Futur, bought 100 of them and will PIF a few when they arrive.
Alum :p I don't think it is for everyone but I have found it to be absolutely brilliant. Must admit when I got into this lark I looked at the alum application and thought " I smell shite" Wrong! Has made my shaves a whole lot more comfortable. I finish with cold water, splash of witchhazel, apply the alum and allow to dry. Marv.

Cheers

Glad you found a blade you liked.

Don't you find you end up looking like a Salt Lake if you leave the alum to dry without rinsing it off?

I usually go alum > cold water rinse > witch hazel/AS...I'm sure the others will contribute a different permutation.

HM, have you a Shavocalypse date for your alum blocks? I reckon that with each daily use you should knock off 23 hours, 59 minutes and 59 seconds from the total to allow for a build-up of drips gradually creating "Son of Alum"! And, after a while you may also end up with a mini alum stalactite, perfect for those more intricate manouvres.

What else do you do? Collect excess lather in a bucket and harvest soap from it??

I find the alum blocks from the Indian supply stores tend to leave powder but the Osma block I have does not leave any visible residue. Don't know if this is true for all the Indian supply store ones. I sometimes rinse my face after using it but when using the Osma block it does not seem to make much difference.

Don't suppose it would do any harm if you didn't rinse it off. I've only ever used the Asian shop bought stuff but I have found it quite drying when I have left it on for a while plus there is that "just seen a ghost look" mentioned by Audio that I'm not that keen on.

If you slap some AS or AB straight over the top I suppose it will make little difference, Robert from the Gents shop does the same in his video.

Usually for me it is shower, shave, alum, do some other stuff then a splash such as proraso, go eat breakfast, then balm (or light moisturiser if needed) and/or scent as I get ready to go.
