Angle

Hi all,

I have seen some photos and videos advertising DE razors and they all seem to show a steep angle (the razor handle is virtually parallel with the face) which always surprises me. My approach is pretty much the opposite, I almost cap ride with the handle much further away from my face.

Seeing these photos / videos make me wonder if I am doing something wrong so I was just wondering what other people's views / approaches are?

Thanks!

Each razor has its own characteristics and angle so I wouldn't overthink it.

Most of the models in these adverts have beards anyway and I doubt they'd know how to hold any razor correctly (exceptions being recent bearded turncoats - @donnie_arko I'm looking at you)

I hear what you're saying about models not knowing what they're doing but surely the people directing them would tell them what's what!

Ha ha. My cheeks may be hairy, but my neck is delightfully smooth!

Chris is bang on about the shaving angle of a DE razors of finding as shallow an angle by riding the top cap then turning the razor into find the most efficient angle.

Also marketing/photography teams aren't the best with DE razors. I've seen quite a few photos (largely on Aliexpress) where they have screwed the head of the razor with the baseplate reversed!

For razors and angles, I've heard one of the few exceptions for angles are some of the Parker models which require a steeper angle than most. I know a few here really enjoy some of their models including the semi slant.

Many, if not all, of the models who wet shave use a cartridge razor so will very likely adopt that angle to hold a razor. Blade angle does not enter their thinking. Even y**tube videos show that steep angle even though they claim to be experienced DE shavers; some well known names included.
