An Ever Ready 1912?????

I do love the sound of my 1912, it sings sweetly to me as I shave. I am tempted to see if I can get a similar effect by making a se style DE, giving a lot more blade options. I assume this has been done before but i still think its worth a go.

Mmmm ... no.

The closest you're going to get is with a DEvette. Take a pair of pliers to a Gillette Tech, snapping off the safety bar. Voila! DEvette. One that came close without razor modification is the Wardonia, but you'll need to modify a blade. Easy done: http://www.theshavingroom.co.uk/forum/showthread.php?tid=29904

I was thinking making it from scratch, custom top cap and bottom plates to replicate the blade top cap gap(maybe a bit smaller due to the thinner blade) and angle (again may need to be a bit steeper?) Should be pretty easy as the blade will be held flat so won't need to calculate any curves and subsequent angles.

Well thanks to Occams Razors kindness I picked up some Gem blades that he dropped off at The Gentlemans Groom Room.

What a shave. Buttering toast it was. It sounds like it should be tuggy but was very smooth. I'd managed about 6 days growth and it was an effortless shave. Very smooth indeed with no irritation or razor burn.

A 4 quid razor beats all the rest I have!!! ATB Brian

Excellent Brian... Do we have another SE convert???

The 1912 is the best razor I've ever used. I have a USA made Ever Ready. A very well behaved razor and incredibly efficient. Such an intuitive razor to use. The butter on toast sound effects are great as well. My only other razor that shaves as close WTG is the R41.

This is reassuring as I have just purchased an English made 1912 today! I have been using an EJ DE89 for a couple of years now and thought I'd broaden my wet shaving experience.

Broaden? It's like your first ride in a Porsche. No going back after ...
The anticipation intensifies! I sourced from a vintage razor dealer on Etsy (BobbyShave), I may have paid slightly more than is typically suggested, but I was hoping to avoid buying a pup and the razor looks incredibly clean, as a bonus it comes in it's original Bakelite case!

Bakelite cased 1912s are always nice. One great thing about these razors that I've found after cleaning up several hundred various vintage razors, they come clean very quickly ... although nobody seems to before selling them, so if you've bought a clean one then the chances are it has not bee used much.

Enjoy it! Savour it - the 1912 is the de facto single edge shave around which all comparisons are made. Take a number of shaves, too, as the blades do go on a journey with you ... seethingly sharp from the off and smooth out somewhere between three and five shaves, often taking you on to eight or ten.

I'll post a few pics once it arrives, I am no expert on such things but after having trawled various suppliers websites this one stood out for its condition. In the main reviews for these are positive, but all say the experience is very different to a DE, have you any pointers to a novice 1912 user ? (open goal here to Fergie Billy!)
