Aluminium scales

Hi all, i recently acquired a couple of old razors that have aluminium scales, or at least an alloy of some sort. I've never seen a razor with scales like this, has anyone got any further information on razors or scales of this ilk? I'm thinking time period, region etc.

I have this vintage Heljestrand with stainless steel scales, easy to clean I believe it was issued to army hospitals

Is it one of these blades that has one flat side ?

Mine is a proper straight razor.

I've had a couple of these and got the impression that they were medical. I had a Heljestrand and one unbranded one which someone had scratched Ljusdal into, which I believe is a military town in Sweden no doubt with a military hospital.

Over on replacement straight side of things from Weck, they produced this for the USN Medical Staff:

So, best guess is that metal scaled were for medical and presumably because they could be put through an autoclave. Military are big purchasers, so presumably many went there ...

Blades which were one-sided are similar microtome razors and no doubt used in labs.

Ljusdal had an airbase for 40 years built for war time use meaning in peacetime I suspect it was mainly an empty landing strip and hangars and bunkers etc

This is the pair that I have acquired, not medical, the top one is a Carlton Hamburg ring, and the bottom a Robert Buntenbach Tambour, both hollow ground.

Yes it is, it's bloody heavy that razor, very industrial feel.

Possible I suppose, quiet spot of effort to make them out of aluminium, and they do show signs of age so not recent.

I have the Dovo with the stainless handles. It's, slippery, heavy and poorly balanced. I dropped and chipped the edge not long after owning it. This was a blessing in disguise, because after I removed the chips and ground out a new bevel it shaved much better than the original geometry!
