Guy that brush looks interesting, could you post that pic on SMF and see what the old codgers on there have to say?

Just copied across the above post+pics to SMF. Yes, let's see if they can come up with anything.
Cheers, good suggestion

They dye boar bristles to make them look like badger hair and I'm 95% certain that's what you got. Boar brushes usually shed with use that is perfectly normal and smell although over time it would have lost its funk. 2 band badger has particular characteristics and exhibits 2 bands of colour only, dark hair with white tips whereas 3 bands of colour is more common.

Cheers mate... clearly with limited experience this is all interesting stuff. I used to believe that there were just two grades of badger hair in brushes - cheap and expensive ;)

All this dyed/undyed boar, boar+badger mix, super, silvertip, best, pure etc. makes me want to just buy more!!!!!

Teiste

if that was the Boots soap stick you received you'll be very pleasantly suprised by it's performance.

Conclusion from Gordon over at SMF is that is genuine and given its condition not "super-old" probably 60s maybe 70s.
Shaved with it this morning and was very pleasant experience. Stiff but was good at lifting up the hairs on my chin, picked up loads of the Trumpers Coconut Oil soap.

It's neat, small and now part of my small travel pack (used when overnight for business). Considering it was cheaper than a Wlkinson Sword or Body Shop brush I am very pleased.
