A word of warning

I tried straight razors several years ago but couldnt get away with the stropping. So I went over to DE shaving, which ive done ever since. However recently I decided to try straight razor shaving again, and bought a Feather Artist Club DX.
Unfortunately when I got it, I rushed ahead and tried to do more that I should have and ended up with nicks all over my neck!
I should point out that I normally do have a stringent hygene routine in all aspects of my life, I dont however use an alum block or witch hazel after shaving.
A couple of days later my nose started to swell, then my cheek, then my eye. Following a visit to hospital I was diagnosed with cellulitus in my face, and put on a high doze of penecillin. If it didnt respond quickly they were going to admit me. A bacterial infection had entered my skin through one of these nicks, leaving me with a dangerous infection. Fortunately it has responded very well to treatment, but it just shows you what can happen!!
Ive had two shaves since then, sucessfully shaving my cheeks with my Feather Artist Club DX and finishing off with my trusty DE. I will use a styptic pencil on any nicks i might get!
I will get there eventually - it hasnt put me off

Nasty business. Glad your ok. Was the first sign your nose swelling or where there any earlier signs that you missed?
The first sign was the end of my nose swelling then it just spread on one side of my face over the next two days. At the end of the second day i was being examined by a hospital consultant who put me on a very strong doze of penicillin. If there wasnt a response within 24 hours they were going to admit me! Fortunately my face quickly responded ☺.
I must say that since then i have had nick-less shaves with my Feather AC DX and absolutely love it. But its taught me to be very careful if i do get the odd nick and to look after them. I never want this to happen to me again!
