3one6 user experience

@Gairdner I hope you're on the mend. The write-ups from @ike gave me a good indication on how to use the 3one6 and I've subsequently had two lovely shaves from it. The razor is certainly more efficient than the DE89 but no more than the GC84 based on my experience to date.

I would definitely buy a stainless steel DE89 head if it was available but I still intend to make the 3one6 a regular in my rotation.

I shaved with mine this morning (5th shave now I think?) and it was superb again. The last 3 shaves have been on 36 hrs of growth and top notch. I'l be shaving again for work tomorrow morning and the rest of the week for work so I'll see how it performs on 24hrs growth over a few days?

All the reviews I've read so far have made the 3ONE6 sound very similar to the Rocca (which I cannot stand) so I decided to do a comparison...

Same geometry? Check.
Same blade gap? Check.
Same blade exposure? Check.
Same (lack of) blade clamping? Check.

I had a Rocco and sold because it was, wait for it, here it comes, too aggressive for me. It certainly seems great for others but not my face.

Nevertheless, I am genuinely pleased some people are getting great shaves from the 3one6.

Peace, out.

I'm giving the stainless one a run when I return from holiday. Want to borrow my red one to see how you get on with it?

Reading between the lines the 3one6 razor is nothing special and needs significant tweakin. Was it rushed onto the market place too soon? Time will tell.

I'd debate that. The quality and finish of the razor is superb. Many of the complaints arise from those who purchased the razor expecting the shaving experience to match the DE89 (a wonderful and mild shave). The 3one6 is more efficient. It has never claimed to be an updated DE89.

I, for one, enjoy the 3one6 and I imagine there are many others in the same camp. There are also many who won't enjoy it - YMMV.

Interestingly, I think I may favour the anodised handle variant but it's still a little early to tell.

I'm the first to admit I was hoping for a SS DE89. The EJ marketing spiel that there was 'minimum blade feel' pointed to a SS '89. I'm not saying we were deliberately misinformed, but they did point us In the wrong direction. I won't be buying anything else from them until the reviews are in.

Don't get me wrong, I'd love an SS DE89 head. The 3one6 becomes really smooth when riding the cap, even though this seems a little counter intuitive with the ribbed safety bar.

I can lend you one to try out if you want Steve?

I've never owned or used any EJ razors before (which must be some sort of personal record), so I'm unable to compare this one with any others of theirs. However, I (YMMV) don't find it "aggressive" or overly "unmild"(?), although, having tried it first with a Feather, I think that there are other blades which will work as well, but more comfortably, in it. I'm about to find out which.

I certainly can't fault it on build quality, although it's a little too soon to judge its durability; especially that of the handle in the aluminium model.

Oddly, it seems to have a characteristic which I notice when using my Blackland Dart. A 2-pass + touch-up shave gives a very smooth-feeling finish, but the next day's stubble somehow seems longer than I'd expect, and more than I'd find with many razors that don't give that degree of post-shave smoothness.
