Williams Wednesday
Cold Water Shave
Brush: Simpson Duke 3
Soap: Williams Mug Shaving Soap
Razor: MicroMatic OC
Blade: Unknown Vintage Injector (2)
Post shave: Cold water Rinse, Shower, Witch Hazel
Balm: Bart's Balm Lime Balm & Lotion
Aftershave: Williams Aqua Velva Musk

I had a wonderful lather from the Duke 3 brush and Williams, cold water face lathered, i did load the brush longer than normal, saying that it is a small puck and it gave enough lather for 3 passes.
I decided to try these Vintage blades again i got with the B2 Schick, they do seem a touch wider and most definitely thicker, everything looked OK in the razor head.
So to the shave,
I could feel the blade cutting from the 1st stroke, again not smooth but not uncomfortable, i carried on and completed 3 full passes, that blade feel did not change, they are not a dull blade its just you can sort of feel it cutting if that makes sense.
When i rinsed off the final time and checked i did have a wonderfully smooth chin.
A very nice post shave to finish off (i changed from Tabac last minute).
BBS, feeling and smelling real good.
I have decided these blades are not for me and they will be banked.
Stay Safe and enjoy your day All and a Happy Birthday @Dcshaves

post - witch hazel
a/s - Old Spice classic

So - day 101 of lockdown - it is July - how the hell did that happen? - last time I looked it was March. I think that a major reason I have not gone completely mental in the previous 100 - has been the company of the mice. They're a grand bunch of lads when you get to know them. In order to pass the time in a more educational way - we have started a book group - it got off to a fairly rocky start - in retrospect my first choice of 'The Cat in the Hat,' was - at best - insensitive - realising my mistake - I went instead for Hemingway - 'The Old Man and the Brie,' and that calmed them down - funnily enough - they thought it was turgid macho posturing too. Mice turn out to be surprisingly vociferous in their opinions on literature - Gerald and I came close to falling out when the group were discussing the central themes of 'A la Recherce du Temps Perdu,' - perfectly reasonably - or so I thought - I suggested - it really comes down to 'involuntary memory' - it ends up describing - what is in effect - a secular apophatic theology - all things reduce to the voice of the author - it becomes the only fixed point in the universe. 'Shite,' according to Gerald - it could only be understood in the terms of semiotics - memories become symbols - he got quite shirty about it - Steve - ever the peace maker - stepped in - and we agreed to differ. Bollocks to him though - what the hell do rodents know about Proust? So the mice get to pick our next title - I absolutely refused to read '50 Shades of Gruyere,' - total pish - middle class mummy porn - but I might compromise on Kafka's 'The Fetamorphosis.' We could even try a bit of theatre? - Beckett - 'Waiting for Gouda?' So - there you go - I haven't gone stark raving mad - as sane as I ever was - sorry - that has nothing to do with shaving.

I went straight back to using the Valobra again - for me - it is remarkably good soap - in every respect. Couldn't fault it - in any way. Sure - it doesn't smell of much - other than soap - but I don't consider that a disadvantage - it means you can reach for any aftershave you please without a potential scent clash. Funnily enough - it reminds me a lot of the Valobra tallow stick in performance - I must check the respective ingredients to see what differs in their composition. No need to use a balm afterwards - so that puts it in the elite category for me - I consider myself very fortunate to have it - shame it has probably been consigned to the soap graveyard. The Yaqi brush really has been an eye opener for me - it is superbly efficient - I've used it with softish - Extro - hard - OSP and milled soaps - Valobra - and it has passed with flying colours. It is just fun to use - because it relatively cheap - you can just thrash it about - you are never going to be precious about using it - as you might with £100 + badger. So - from zero expectation when I took it out the box - to part of the rotation within three shaves - high praise indeed.

Enjoy your shaving - one and all - stay safe - yours - completely sanely - I.

@Dcshaves - happy birthday mate - nice present!

How are you finding the Lodz blades? Going by your remarks they seem to be lasting the distance

Take it the Slim appears to be making its living....being a razor

I've always found the Lodz among the best blades for me - top tier in any razor - but they seem to excel in some - the Slim, Rockwell and the 37C slant for example - this particular blade - did an odd thing I've experienced before - around the 5/6 mark - a wee bit tuggy - but then they get their act together - and it is onwards to 10+ uses without anxiety. The Slim - what can be said that has not been said before? - they just work - and they are a work of art - funnily enough - I have a gold Aristocrat version - but I never took to it as I have to this one - strange - they ought to be identical in use? Put it this way - I haven't even thought to pick another razor since it arrived - and I don't see that changing any time soon. Indeed a blessing from the shave gods. ;) - how is the quest for single edge zen going? - om mani padme hum........

A very efficient two pass shave this morning. The little Rocca brush whipped up plentiful amounts of lather on the face and the Rocca razor displayed its usual ruthless nature, tempered by the GSB blade, to give a wonderfully close shave. To me the R96 feels more aggressive than the famous R41 head, but perhaps it's just me.

Zenningly

Have the General V2 (out on loan already) which I love and @Boycie83 seems to have a tuggy issue. Amateur.

Also added an Occams Enoch. Hard work at first but proving exceptionally capable and I still have my fingers to prove a point that I appear to be learning.

And finally a Mongoose stainless is presently winging its way to Liverpool. Had a brief past affair with an Alugoose but always thought the let down was being aluminium. Hoping the stainless is more the razor the Alu should have been. @Rob998 seems to have taken to the aluminium version. Rob is my hand me down in the world of razors and Hifi.

Getting there and still a few more on the list for the future. Present funds are going on the back of the house bomb site and ridiculously priced shaving soaps. Oh, and an eventual custom made brush.

Good job I finally managed to get some redundancy after three and half years of tribunals with my previous employers. Happy days.

My first shave for nearly three weeks after contracting COVID-19:-

SMN cream
AP Shave Co Synbad
Timeless .68 OC dimpled handle
Astra SS #1
Argan Oil

A terrific feeling to remove my horrid beard that to me was a release from the suffering of three weeks of illness. It took three passes to remove the abomination after which reappeared the man I am.
Hope you are on the mend.

Wednesday 1st July
Alpha Outlaw - Wickham 1912 Apricus - Rocnel SE-P Open Comb - Euromax Platinum #1 - Osmanli Lemon Cologne - Wickham 1912 Apricus ASB

My last 2 shaves with the Rocnel were smooth, close and excellent. Which told me I'd really got a handle on this very unique razor.
I bought some Euromax saloon blades as an experiment, plus they were less than £3 for 100. Yes, I have been known to like a bargain.
What an excellent blade it turns out to be, as the shave was smooth and truly marvelous. In fact as good as the ½ Nacet gave me the last time I shaved with the razor.
If this blade gives me another good shave in 2 days, I'll be delighted.

I took your advice and checked the alignment earlier. The blade had indeed shifted. It's now in its correct place and ready for a more successful shave.

To be honest Chris it is something I noticed after the first few shaves as it didn't seem to be closing correctly. A bit of a design fault.

You are now raised to professional and apologies for giving you an amateur status. (y) ;)
