After ditching Gillette for good these are my current best cart razors:
1 - DSC/Dorco Pace 6
2- Wilkinson Hydro 5
3 -Wilkinson Hydro Connect 3

In this order, Dorco is simply astonishing (2 pass and BBS) , Hydro 5 a tad less close and the hydro connect 3 less close but very comfortable.pace6 front.jpghydro5 front.jpghydro3 front.jpg

I haven't been able to ditch my Gillette because my 2 favourite cartridges are Gillette: Mach 3 and Sensor. In addition I have aftermarket handles for both: a GFT faux ivory handle for the Mach 3 and a shavemac faux ivory handle for the Sensor.

Luca didn't you say you had gone back to using Gillette for the rest of your life after being banned from the group "boycott gillette"?

it was a joke related to the banning.Of course i'm not going back. Maybe i will investigate again the DEs when i will have more time to shave in the morning. For now, it's just Dorco/DSC and wilkie

mach 3 and even better sensor are from the "old" gillette (the one before the P&G acquisition). It was a completely different beast. IMHO P&G destroyed gillette.

I own the Pace 6 and it is a quality product tbh, not my favourite cart, that is kept for the discontinued Lidl double blade that can bond nicely with the Gillette Atra handles.

Complete rubbish. I have every old and new Gillette cart, there isn't any difference.
Haters are gonna hate.
i my own testing i can definitely say there IS a GREAT difference between old blades (fairly great quality) and the later ones (not so good). And BTW

I've been using Mach 3 carts since they first came out. I can't say that I've noticed a difference from then to today. What has struck me recently is that every so often a pack of carts seems milder than what I'm used to. Perhaps, however, this is due to my paying closer attention to the feel of a cart on my face than I have before.

Gillette blade quality has only improved through the years as a mere glance at their patents shows. They pump a boatload of money into R&D. Do you really think the Koreans (Dorco) or Harry's (debt financed to the teeth until sold recently) do that? No way, José.

I believe the Mach3 has had one marketing upgrade, when they annnounced nano technology but apparently nothing had changed, and more recently with the differences between the Gillette 3 and the Mach3. As I didn't purchase the European version of the Gillette 3, which has now disappeared I couldn't say. I am happy using the normal disposables which feel the same as the original in 1998. I have used the Sensitive version, and it shaved fine too. I wonder what makes it sensitive? Fat jokes?

The problem with the big names, Gillette inevitably at the top of the list, is that they get faked mercilessly and even retailers cannot be certain of the product unless they are big enough to buy direct from the manufacturer. Until I recently moved to DS I had settled on Dorco Classic as simply the best, most efficient and most comfortable cartridge I had found in my 73 years. So good that I stopped trying anything else, safe in the knowledge that I was buying direct from the manufacturer. I was so impressed with Dorco steel and edge that I have just started using their 301 DS blades which I will review elsewhere but suffice to say that they are so much more comfortable than Feathers yet seem to produce a perfect shave without effort. If you know the history of Korean blade-making it's hardly a surprise that they produce very fine razors.
