Kent brushes

Big, soft & floppy. They are only really suited to bowl lathering and then applying the lather to your face with painting motions. The handle design is attractive but not overly comfortable. Overall I don't think they are particularly worth the money, especially when you factor in the fact they are made in China for Kent... You may as well bypass the middle man and buy a Yaqi, Maseto or Oumo.

My old BLK12:

Most modern badger brushes, especially the high end ones, have quite a lot of backbone, but the Kent ones don't. They are very soft feeling, but quite capable of whipping up a good lather on your face or in a bowl. Some like the gentle "cloud-like" sensation of using them, others don't.
Maybe in a few years the relatively stiff bristled brushes currently so popular will go out of fashion and Kent models will suddenly become THE brushes to own.

Ok I see thank you all for the information I managed to buy a bK8 for £76 so was a good deal, hopefully I will like it I do enjoy soft luxurious feeling brushes

I've a BK4 and like it very much. It's everything that a BK8 and BK12 are except in smaller format. I only face lather and find the BK4 is well up to the task. The one thing that would steer me away from the 8 and 12 is their size, which I think would make face lathering sub-optimal, but I haven't tried that with either. As for badger brushes in general, I like smaller knots (22 mm and no bigger than 24 mm) and I don't like dense, stiff knots, which seem to be the fashion today. I'd be interested to learn how you like your BK8.

Ok thanks alot for the info , I have alot of big dence brushes, from DG for example and mozingo brush works. Those knots seem to be harder to get the right lather but IV learnt you need to really load up the brush. Yes will post my thoughts on the bK8 should get it soon, I'm a face lather so it will be interested to see how I find it

Brush just arrived, 1st impresions - the box is ok but does feel quite cheat especially on the outside, don't find the Handel to be comfortable in the hands very poorly designed the bottom part is just to narrow:( there is no glue bump witch is good and the overall quality of the Handel is ok. Nothing special but nothing awful. Midrange brush for sure. The loft is very high so it will be interesting to see how that works, also this is the least dense brush I own. Does feel very soft thought, will use it later and post my thoughts

Just done a face lather using the Kent, the Handel is actually more comfortable then I thought, loading the soap was fairly easy and didn't take long at all, the brush is quite floppy though but picks up soap easy. There is a massive splay on the brush so covers alot of my face, was supprised with the about of scritch in this brush wasn't expecting that it's not uncomfortable scritch but none of my other brushes have this feeling, the knot didn't feel that luxurious at all was expecting it to be alot softer, it don't make an amazing lather though in a short period of time. Will include a pic. Will do a shave with it later but intial impressions are I'm not to sure about this brush was hoping it to be alot softer

I fear that the quality of these once very good brushes have fallen since the move to China, I had one of the British made BK12S and it was like painting the lather on with a cloud.
This is what can happen when you outsource manufacturers. P.

Oh no how do you know they have moved to China ? It's definitely not that soft has alot of scritch to it especially when you splay the brush :(

They don't announce it but if you examine the brush and box you'll see that nowhere does it mention where it's made... Usually if made in UK they will shout it from the rooftops. A few years back Fido (of New Forest brushes) asked Kent for a factory tour so he could see how they made their brushes, Kent declined (we concluded at the time it was likely because the airplane ticket to China would have cost them a fortune :p)
