Every time he comes up, he's got no knife, he's got no jacket, he's got no pants, he's got no boots. All he's got is that stupid gun he carries around like John Wayne. Stanley, see this? This is this. This ain't somethin' else. This is this. From now on, you're on your own.

The best play that ever hit the BBC...JUST A BOYS GAME

I had just moved to Scotland from Germany at 14 yo just after this was shown and everyone was saying "mcCaferty yer teas oot." I thought it was just a Scottish thing. Never seen the film till about 4 or 5 years ago at a mates house. Had a grin from ear to ear when he said it. :) (y)

Having lived in Scotland as a nipper, the poverty and characterisations are well observed; the shipyard life is also now long gone. Frankie Miller apparently had some lucrative offers after this, both for acting and recording (he sings the end credits) but turned both down to continue with his band on his own terms. A real talent and I wish he had chosen more acting roles.

I know, quoting my own post. It was on again last night as part of BBC play for today and I bloody loved it, as good and gritty as I remember.( rab c nesbit was in it) That's when bbc made telly worth watching. Yes I have it on series record.

I think the straight acting of Rap C Nesbit is just terrific, it shows the dexterity of the his talent, which was rarely utilised in straight roles after he moved to comedy and he certainly had the looks when he was younger as well. I suspect there were so few opportunities for Scots actors; the fact that he still rose to the top is some achievement...

Yea I think the Scots in films at that time were alcoholics or thugs or joke characters. I'm not sure it's much better now. See you Jimmy. :p :)

My Dinner With André

"Remember that moment when Marlon Brando sent the Indian woman to accept the Oscar, and everything went haywire? Things just very rarely go haywire now. If you're just operating by habit, then you're not really living".
