YaQi 24mm 'Tuxedo' Synthetic

On the strength of the very positive reviews here I have ordered a 26MM Yaqi Mysterious Space Color handle Tuxedo Hair Knot Shaving Brush.

Just to update I tried the above brush today, love it, I face lather and found it very easy to use, maybe not as soft as I imagined but it's still darned good.
The brush itself is very well made and feels quite heavy, the handle looks even better in real life, well worth what I paid for it.

There seem to be a number of new Yaqi brushes, here's their new High Mountain Badger

Here are the synths, with different knots to the ones they have offered before.

I'm intrigued whether the new synth knots are the same fibre as the Plissoft/Tuxedo or are new fibres all together.

I suspect they have just varied the dye and these are as you say Tuxedo or Plissoft in reality. Yaqi also have Black Fibre and Cashmere knots in their armoury too which similarly could be altered.

I have read elsewhere where that the Timberwolf knot is a Plissoft in reality and can confirm that this indeed true now I have in my possession.

Cashmere is the same as Plissoft

Had a shave with the Yaqi black marble Tux 24mm last night and noticed that loads of the cream simply disappeared down into the brush. Is this a general trait of synthetics or does the Yaqi stand out in this respect?

Previous shave was with a Razorock 24mm plissoft and whilst you can tease out some nice lather from the base of the brush for a third pass, then have a simple clean-up, there was just loads of it coming up from the base of the Yaqi brush, and I'd hardly used any cream. Not a complaint as such, more an annoyance as it seemed to take ages to squeeze it out and rinse the brush !

I have on order the Chianti's synthetic (purple swirly handle with greyIsh colour knot).
If you zoom in on the fibres they look different to those of the Tuxedo or a RazoRock 400.
When it arrives I will compare performance to my YaqI 24mm Tuxedo and report back.

Yes, please do report your observations of your new Chianti brush. It's one of my favourite handles they've made for sure, I'd have definitely bought one if I didn't already have 3 of their synths already!

I asked Yaqi about it: all the fibres (supposedly from BASF) are the same but the black ones. Moreover, the glue bump can significantly modify the backbone/stiffness.

I agree. I have 3 Yaqi's all with the same fibre - 1 Plissoft, 2 Tuxedos and I'd say the loft height and glue bump is what makes the greatest difference but they are all superb brushes but with different feels.

Thanks. As of several months I only now use two black ones. I sold my two Tuxedos to friends who wanted one. One day I'll get another.

How many different knots are there in the Yaqi range? As far as I can see they are
- black
- timber wolf
- mew brown
- tuxedo

Anyone know which knots correspond to the other names used by manufacturers? Like Cashmere, Plissoft etc? I read that Yaqi supply the basic knots to almost all resellers.

Well, this is indeed a great brush for a face latherer with a tad more "backbone" than the FlatTop. It is to my handsome face like the SynBad, but with the soft tips of the FlatTop and to me that is just extra gravy. ;) I was afraid to buy a 24mm Cashmere as many said it was too floppy. Well, maybe I got lucky with the perfect amount of glue "bump" as mine has less than my SynBad/Mew Brown knot and is perfect for my technique.

I really like this one. :)

I notice that Yaqi have changed their handle shape from the 2017 shape in post 1. I much prefer the old style shorter handle, and I cut down my 26mm Tuxedo to pretty much the same shape - height is now 53mm. Feels much better in the hand.T-Wolf Short redux.jpgTuxedo 24mm old.jpg
