What are you listening to?

Harsh losses recently. Just after De La Soul sorted out licensing for the streaming of Three Feet High and Rising - it took 20 years to legal the samples. Then founder member David Jolicouer goes and dies. Nae luck. A classic album - peerless, happy, upbeat and cheerful. Refreshingly lacking in shooting cops and slapping bitches compared to their contemporaries.

As most will know, these tracks run together on the album. I prefer to remember Dave Crosby in this way. I couldn't get on with Crosby, Stills, Nash and - even worse - Neil Young. Individually fine - mostly - but together? Let's throw a bunch of drug problems into a studio. Let's not.

Pomp rock's not dead

Hi there,

That was pretty good..........thanks. Might I share one of my favorite Robert Service poems put to music. He wrote lots about "The Frozen North", but also quite a few WW1 related pieces. This poem was composed around 1916. and is part of the War War War album by Joe Mc Donald. The correct cut starts at 12:00 and is called The Man From Athabasca. There's other fine poems/songs as well such as Young Fellow My Lad and also Jean Desprez. Plus, I'm a sucker for twelve string guitars.
