Twig SE

Ok, I thought I'll throw my 2p to the review ring.

I have a matt black Twig in use for over a month now, and it did what I thought was impossible and pushed the Krona to number two position.
The Krona was the razor I settled down within 2016 and used almost exclusively with short brakes on the Rockwell 6c plate 5.

I used an SE before in the form of an ER 1912, and Rolls v3 and the Twig is far more comfortable for my three-a-week shave.

This razor's beauty is the overall minimalism of the design, balance, efficiency, and feel on the face.

What's good:

1. Shortish handle (about the same as a 37c)
2. The handle is thick just where you grip, no more, no less, meaning the balance is perfect for medium hands.
3. The knurls on the handle divide into two sections, precisely where you hold the razor in its most balanced position, which is a nice thought from the designer.
4. The razor feels very mild, but it's very efficient in a very similar way to my Krona, or maybe better; I never managed to cut myself with the Twig.
5. The razor head is a design marvel; it is relatively very thin (about as thick as 5 DE blades stuck together); this is obviously advantageous to shave the line of skin between the nose and upper lip; I never used a razor that made this job so easy, not even the number one so far in this section- the Gillette Contour.
6. For me, the aggression is perfect, although I see that Agent-Shave is selling a more aggressive version with an additional blade gap (I did not see it on the Leaf shave own website, so maybe this is a special model just for Agent-shave?)
7. There are many colours to choose from, plus a model with this psychedelic coating they call 'Prism'; if you like bling, you might like this, but not for me (see pic from their site). The matt coating on mine is very grippy with wet/soapy palms.
8. Constant results are easy to get even with a change of blade/soap combo. I mostly use Russian Gillettes in all forms plus 3p soap and Omega 102 boar brush, but switching to Leaf own blade (Lord?) with some Arko gives similar results but is a significantly noisier blade than the Russians.
9. The half blade is fully covered, so even the blade's uneven breakage doesn't cause grief or scratches.
10. You work very, very fast with this razor; not much in there to hurt you so you get faster to the nice bit of the shave for me - the splash.

What's not so good:

1. Tightness need a bit of attention after loading a blade; make sure you tighten it enough but not too much, some sort of a lock or click will be nice.

That's it, can't fault this little razor. I love it because I am super conservative when it comes to shaving, and this razor is a true work of art in every respect for my needs.

Those are some big shoes to fill as the Krona is a spectacular razor!! I just wish the Twig was cheaper. It's $59 (42.76 GBP) in the USA with free shipping.

Nice review from @Shemen Zait , and I second his comment about the tightness of the razor. A click-stop would certainly benefit it, and avoid over-tightening. Somehow (don't ask!) I've ended up with two Twigs (does a brace of these constitute a Branch?), one of which closes and stays tighter than the other. I find the same phenomenon with other butterfly razors (Gillette, Krona), and I think it's bound to be a factor in any razors using this type of closure design.

@Bogeyman It's a bit more expensive in the UK, at £50/$69, also with free shipping.

Yes, two twigs and you have a branch, keep collecting and you will have a tree!!! :)

In case you didn't know, there are two different baseplates for the Krona, the earlier & later ones that operate differently.

Thanks. I have two Kronas, one with original plastic case and instructions. One has the black knob, "Schick Krona" on the top caps, and the single thickness rising bar; the other has the silver knob, plain brushed top caps and the folded rising bar. To be honest, I've never really considered the differences in the mechanisms and the baseplates, but the looser action is on the silver knob version. Which is the earlier model?

Very useful thread. I'm awaiting delivery of a Twig following my positive experience of the Leaf last year. I'll combine it with my recently received OSP 'Old Gold' soap and aftershave for a SOTD mini review. Looking forward to comparing experiences!:)

Well, did you get one?

Well, summarize for me here please kind sir.
I found the Twig to be a little unbalanced for my taste...too light in the head compared to the handle, so I felt I had to put more pressure on than I was comfortable with. I prefer the razor head to be heavier so it can almost glide down the face with little pressure. Other than that it was fine. Blades easy to load, and a nice little TTO action to open up the tray. Magnets and little metal stoppers held a manually snapped half-blade in place well. Good under the nose...the narrower head providing a little more precision. A good razor overall...and if I'd given it more of a chance with different blades, maybe I would have really liked it. If I hated it I would have PIF'ed it, but there's lots to like so I sold it:sneaky:.

I should add that my experience with every SE I've tried has been just shy of satisfying...the Twig fell slightly short too:(

I've decided that I am and will forever be a DE shaver and an EJDE enthusiast:);)
