The Bullgoose Asylum RX razor - are you getting one?

Latest from the Asyum RX FB page is that when asked why was there no announcement since it was supposed to be released tomorrow, Phil said that it has been pushed back for maybe another week. He mentioned maybe 5 will come in tomorrow and 15 on Monday and another 15 on Tuesday and no word after that. Now would be a good time for Greg and Joe to release the El Jefe and Hawk.

Of course Phil might be taking a page out of Brian's playbook when he released the Claymore.

Phil got himself into a rabbit hole. He has been trying to sell his own brand of razor for years and there is no end in sight. He originally was going to have the razors machined and built in Florida but that feel through so he settled on California which probably is double the cost. I was not planning on buying one but good luck to him.

As I remember, his original price he was intending to sell it for was that $180-200 price point which was the Mongoose and ATT price (even though ATT was just playing around with an idea at that point). Suddenly when it went into production, it became $230 which was sticker shock for a lot of folks. Having to change manufacturers at a higher cost would explain this sudden jump in price. I am still on the fence with the RX as it does have a small injector like head without the moving parts and small pieces, but it is way over my budget.

From what I heard Phil was originally going to be the exclusive seller of the Mongoose which is made in Florida. He was also going to manufacture the RX at the same machine shop. But apparently (no real proof) something went wrong with the deal with the Mongoose guys and he decided to make the RX locally(California). That would certainly explain the big price difference of $180 to $230. For anyone living in Europe that probably means $300 or more.

This kind of fits my experiences a little less than two years ago. I found a Weck Surgical Prep safety razor and liked it so much that I became very interested when I heard that two folks - Cobra and Mongoose was making safety razors based on the Feather AC blades. Both were extremely expensive and hard to find. A vendor carrying the Cobra was always out of stock and the price was over $200. the Mongoose was about $180 but I couldn't find anyone that carried it. In my search, I came across a place (forget where) that said if you want to buy a Mongoose, you need to go through Bullgoose. so I sent Bullgoose an email inquiring about the availability of the Mongoose and was bluntly told that they had no information about it and wasn't carrying it and go ask Mongoose how to get one.

In the end, I did track down an email for Mongoose and was put on a wait list, but when my name came up, I was in the process of moving and passed. Good thing as there are more options now and Mongoose is readily available (if I decided to get one).
