SOTD : Saturday 11th July - Friday 17th July 2020

Decided to shake things up a little this morning. Reached for Musgo Real Spiced Citrus shave cream which I haven't used in awhile. A light but very nice spiced citrus scent. Scent notes from Musgo describe it as an oriental fougere with citrus, warm spices and incense. Smells very nice and as a shaving cream Musgo Real has always been good. I have five of their scents. Not cheap but if you can find it on sale it's worth a try.

Karve CB with the C SB plate was on deck today loaded with a GSB. I love the combo and it is comfortable to use.

Lovely two pass DFS and I topped off with Stirling Satsuma AS which is also a spiced citrus accord and some ADP Essenza. Happy hump day! Stay safe!

Decided to switch from my DE89 and Merkur 34G rotation this afternoon and gave one of my 1912's a rare trip out:

  • Pre-shave Ach Brito Glyce soap
  • Omega shave cream, lathered in copper bowl with Phoenix AA 'Green Ray'
  • Ever-Ready 1912 Gem
  • Post-shave alum rub and Pinaud Clubman AS splash

Maybe I should use 1912's more often and try to get into the SE scene. This shave was definitely closer and a little more aggressive than my usual - definitely more sting from the alum and AS - but only two passes. Someone out there may be able to advise, but am I right in saying that SE blades like Gems often need a few shaves to hone them in?
I think the excellent Omega cream really helped and if you haven't tried one of these copper bowls for lathering, I would strongly recommend giving one a go. About £12 online but very lightweight and easy to clean.

Have a great evening all (y)

Good, good! Try getting the cap flatter to your face. It might feel a little unnatural at first, but you should be able to get as close a shave but hopefully less sting afterwards. You're looking to follow the angle of the bevel at the end of the cap where it meets the blade.

Another great shave. The brush is a favorite, with perfect feel on my face and in my hand.

Prep: Valobra Glycerlanolina soap, Myrsol Emulsion
Brush: Saponificio Varesino Two-band High Mountain Manchurian White Badger
Soap: Barrister and Mann 42
Razor: Wolfman WR1
Blade: Vintage NOS Personna P74 (2)
Post: Thayers Cucumber Witch Hazel; Myrsol Plastic Shave
Scent: Knize 10

A very Douglas Adams shave this evening. The soap scent is very interesting - the floral notes of the petunias, once passed through the Infinite Improbability Drive, morph seamlessly into Amberbris from a very surprised Sperm Whale. But of course, Arthur Dent would be mortified if tea where not present in the blend, and this note really seals the deal.

The P74 blade was just as sharp, but smoother on its second outing, as I often find with vintage blades, as a wee bit of stropping removes accumulated detritus from the edge.

I'm now heading out with Zaphod for a few cheeky Pan Galactic Gargle Blasters.

F**k f**k - I gave myself a weeper shaving today - f**k - I cannot remember the last time I drew claret - I thought I was way beyond that. My own fault - I was trying to shave in a hurry - which - much like - incest and line-dancing - should be avoided at all costs. Apart from that - great.

Agoraphobia - noun - 'is an anxiety disorder characterized by symptoms of anxiety in situations where the person perceives their environment to be unsafe with no easy way to escape. These situations can include open spaces, public transport, shopping centres, or simply being outside their home.'

I probably need to go back to work next week - which - on one hand - is a good thing - my bank account currently resembles the wreck of the Hesperus - there you go - how often is Longfellow referenced in a sotd post? I'm quite proud of that. But - note to self - don't start a sentence with but - shoddy grammar - I'm terrified - don't mind admitting it - I think I have survived the last 100 odd days in lock down - by adopting - pretty much - a monastic way of life. I'm going to have to leave the cloister next week. F**k. Take care all - I.

Good luck mate; hope all goes well; one day at a time ;-)

Fat Handled Tech
OSP Rosemary & Peppermint
AP Shaveco 26mm Synbad
Polsilver SI #3
Geo Trumper Limes as lotion

OSP always produces tremendous lather. I hear mumbling of a small scale return to market soon. I've recently broken my vow not to buy any soaps this year. I'm sure I will again if James does return to market. Really enjoy using my Tech, I can see why it was produced for decades. It performs effortlessly well.
