I have several books signed by the authors. I like the connection that it gives between me and the person that wrote the book I am reading.
My lastest one was purely by chance, a 2nd hand book from Amazon. OK the inscription is to someone else, but its a nice addition to my collection.
Anyone else have signed books? Any tales to tell about them?

SAS Heroes: Pete Scholey.
Thunder in the park: Tom Wheatcroft (I have two copies, both signed as my dad knew him).
Foggy: Carl Fogarty autobiography.
Winning is not enough: Jackie Stewart.
Into the red: Nick Mason (again I have two copies, one 'normal', one 'special bound edition, both signed).
Thrust: Richard Noble (limited Thrust SSC supporters edition).

I am sure I have a few more, will add if I remember them.

After reading my first lee child (jack reacher) book I was blown away, so had a chat with a mate from water stones and managed to get a signed copy for me.

When I say me it was actually my
Mum as it was her birthday the following month - sadly she hates the series of books (something about them being too violent!)

Now if I changed my name to Marilyn I could ask for the book ...

Signed in person? I'd love to shake hands with Cohen and have him scribble on something. Fine artefact there, Sir.

I've got a boat load of Sisters of Mercy records (there's a Cohen link ... into the mess that scalpels make) scribbled on by the big E. Loads of ASF scratched by Nik and occasionally Mrs.

... not a big reader. Scotopic sensitivity, and all that; no, not going to wear funny glasses, just do without.

Tom Baker signed Dr Who novel from way back when he was the doctor. I met him in a bookshop in Southampton after queuing a while when I was a lad. I've also got around five different author signed book on the subject of ancient civilisations.

The only signed book I have is Against All Odds by James Hunt.

My grandfather gave it to me on my 13th birthday. I'd have loved to have gone to the signing!

Lots of cricketers for some reason, Garfield Sobers, Ian Botham, Imran Khan, John Snow are the ones I remember.
Lots of signed Terry Pratchett including a sadly fading Map of Ankh Morpork signed by him and the artist.
Several Iain Banks and Iain M Banks books. Margaret Thatchers autobiography. I'm sure there are a few more as well that I can't recall right now.

Critical Dialogues in Cultural Studies by Stuart Hall (the academic, not the sex offender) - was taught by him at OU Summer School
a Ruth Rendell
a few Colin Dexters
couple of Andy McNabs
Captain Corelli's Mandolin
Writing Home by Alan Bennett
a few Graham Joyce novels
3 Para by Patrick Bishop
Bone & Cane by David Belbin
a Peter Robinson
a Private Eye annual
spring to mind. There will be others.

I love the Tears series by Paul Henke, he is a little known welsh author who i met in a bookshop he happened to be in and he signed his newest book for me. I am on the 4th or 5th reading of them

A guy I worked with years ago spent a year buying first editions of all Stephen Kings' novels as a Christmas present for his wife. He stored them in a cupboard at work under lock and key. About 2 months before Christmas he wrote to Stephen King's publisher asking if it would be possible to have one signed. He got back a first edition of the first book King wrote signed with a lovely note to this guy's wife. I have thought Stephen King to be a bit of a star ever since.

I have a signed copy of Alan F Alford's Gods Of the new millennium, I bought it in a second hand book shop for a couple of pounds, I don't think they realised it was a signed copy or it would have cost me more.
The shattering truth of human origins.......a good read.

I have a few signed books, nothing too collectable though.

I love my Latin American authors and one of my prized books is a copy of The Death of Artemio Cruz signed by Carlos Fuentes. More recently I have Norse Mythology by Neil Gaiman, The Tobacconist by Robert Seethaler, The Gentleman in Moscow by Amor Towles as well as The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho.

The most dearest signed book is a local one based on a Welsh folk story 'Rhiannon' by a Pembrokeshire based author called Roscoe Howells, my granddad bought the book whilst on holiday and the author happened to be there so signed it and left a little message, I have had it for over 20 years and it is very very dear to me and has pride of place on my bookshelf.

A good website to buy signed books from is Coles Books, they have lots of signed books and reasonably priced too for the most part.
