Shopping for an adjustable

Hi Gents,
I have been on the DE bandwagon for now going on three and a half years.
I have been recently been having a itch for an adjustable.
Ok let's start my fourteen year old son started shaving properly and I got him a OneBlade core which he loves and I find it ok but a far cry from my daily R41. I was looking at the hybrid but decided to stick to DE.
Now the R41 for me is an absolutely superb razor and just always gives me the goods, but got an itch though with some birthday money. So I am looking for an adjustable, why? No idea, Just fancy one.
Thanks for staying with me. .
I really fancy a Rex but is it worth it compared to the likes of the Parker, Progress for a quarter of the price? Do I take a chance on fleabay for a Gillette super or slim?
The other one is the Rockwell model T but I have no idea about price or availablity, though my name is on the list.

Thanks for lasting to the end and thank you all in advance for your comments.

I have the Parker and it is excellent. Other options could be the Yintal or Ming Shi Futur clones from AliExpress. These would allow you to dip your toes before spending a lot of money. Adjustables are not favoured by everyone.

Hi!
I have owned or tested these adjustable razors:
- Gillette adjustable
- Gillette super adjustable aka black beauty
- merkur progress long
- Digress short
- Merkur Futur
- chinese Futur clone

And I can assure you that the Rex ambassador I have now is FAR BETTER than all of above...in fact I have now only the black beauty appart from the Rex, mainly because sentimental reasons (it was made in my birthyear).

The Rex is simply much better made and provide with closer & clean shaves without the need of taking so much care like the other ones (at least with 3-3.5 dial, my preferred). I strongly recommend you although it is true that is a very expensive thing for sure...

Though not so much spoken of these days, the Merkur Progresses (and the uprated Digresses and Mergresses) are very good adjustables.

I have all the Merkurs and variants, Fatboys, Slims, Black Beauty, and a Rex. The Rex is perhaps the best for me, but I'm using my long-handle Mergress at the moment, and it's a good shaver.

Progresses are reasonably priced, but a Rex is quite an investment. It puts the rest in the shade.

People will suggest the Futur. That's one of only two razors on my all-time "hate list".

As the owner and user of a Rex and a short handle Progress, as much as enjoy using the Rex, you won't notice a £140 difference in the shave between it and a Progress (your wallet will) and I'd also throw a Rockwell 6C into the mix for consideration.

I can afford the Parker and progress now, so feedback on the Rex is appreciated, all be a bit more saving is required. I am concerned though about some gents say they feel tugging with the Rex.

Thanks for Rex v progress. As for the Rockwell I would want a true adjustable rather than plate changes. Rockwell model T, no comments yet on it, yes I know it's still not ready out there yet.

+1. The Futur is the worst razor I've ever used. Mine was so badly out of alignment that it cut me to shreds, even on the most "mild" setting. I ended up sending it back for a refund. I will never but a Murkur again.

I have a Gillette Slim in nice condition that needs a new home if you decided that was of interest.

Likewise thoughts from here. I just couldn't get on with it and it is incredibly clumsy to use.

A good adjustable? None of them as I don't get the point. Blade gap is not the only consideration of how aggressive a razor might be. A good DE will see you through all shaves irrespective of the amount of growth.

The Rex Ambassador is probably the most efficient razor in my collection. Set on level 2 it only takes passes to give a perfect BBS shave. Really think that if you can afford it you will never ever regret buying it!

I am still doing my homework on the adjustable thing, so not wanting to jump in at the moment and also having to squirrel money away that SWMBO will not miss.
Thanks though for the offer.

My favourite is the R41 so I will be edging towards the more aggressive razor.
I was about to pull the trigger on one at the weekend but SWMBO needed her eyelashes permed and legs waxed before the holidays. So unfortunately more research and having to squirrel some more money away.
Permed eyelashes.... Come on, who gives a shit
