Well, New Boots anyway, courtesy of my mum, for my upcoming birthday:

I think Ian would have approved, even though they're not DMs

As for the panties, well, it is a Bank Holiday after all...

Grenson's ? P.

No, Loake Bedale, Paul. Couldn't quite stretch to Grenson's unfortunately, mum gave me £200 for my birthday, and told me I was not, under any circumstances, to spend it on records...

When I told her I wanted some nice shoes she was over the moon, because she used to have a serious shoe habit. It kills her that she can only wear Ecco and Hotters these days!

The Loakes were on sale and I managed to find a discount code that dropped them to just under £200, so I have change for a pint, cheers Mum!

A lovely pair of boots and a lovely mum too! :) P.

I have a pair of those, they take a bit of breaking in but reckon they'll go for donkey's. Beaut boot!
Check all the seems and stitching with great scrutiny... the first pair I got in a sale were a bit faulty here and there so I sent them back. Hence the sale price? Possibly? Cynical perhaps? Got a proper pair sent from same vendor.

Hello Rob, those boots are indeed beautiful and will last you a lifetime if well looked after. Is that a double leather of danite rubber sole. When I was at school many years ago, late sixties, early seventies (the skinhead era) people used to wear either Dr Martins or what were known (for some reason) as Corsicans, which were very similar to your boots but always with a duble leather sole. Perhaps a nice pair of Chelsea boots to go with them at some time? I have a couple of pairs of RM Williams CB's, but on the more formal pair have had the heals lowered slightly and added a double leather sole for good measure. I have looked at getting some made from either Alfred Sargent or Edward Green, but I don't think that this is viable for me now. On a lesser note, if you would like a pair of Chelsea boots for say perhaps wearing casually on a holiday etc; Clarks currently do a fairly good range at a very reasonable price.

You all probably realise, but the name of the album was so named because boots and panties were the only items of clothing that Ian Dury purchased new; all other clothing items were obtained from charity stores etc.

They have the ”Victory“ pattern Dainite sole, I've had a few “Oops-a-daisy“ moments on wet pavements with leather soles! Someone has suggested that, when they wear out, to replace the soles with the Oliver Sweeney commando sole which is meant to be better. Whatever, (that's) a few years off yet!

I did know the reason behind the album title, but had forgotten it, and now that you reminded me of it, I know it again!

Yes, I have noticed that many makers are now converting to rubber soles; I've known a few people who have taken a tumble and suffered broken wrists for their troubles. I'm still a traditionalist until I probably come off for the worst.

All the best Rob, enjoy your boots.

When I was a kid visiting England in the early 70's, I remember seeing skinheads wearing cardigan sweaters.
In the mid 80's here in the states, ‘skins wore specific Docs' depending on their mob.
Oi ‘'skins wore Docs with the Union Jack, Nazi ‘skins wore a swastika, American white pride ‘skins wore Old Glory
Plain Docs' were worn by S.H.A.R.P. ( Skin Heads Against Racial Prejudice)
Lots of the old ultra violence back then, Tom Metzger was from St.Louis, and started hanging out at shows.
1985 at Turner's Hall, Henry Rollins about got killed for refusing to play Skrewdriver. Viddy well little brother, viddy well.
