Mach 3 vs Fusion blades

Surely, Gillette has done a superb job of conning the public into believing that multi-blade razors are a necessity whereas we have yet to see multi-blade steak knives or bayonets. ;)

But in seriousness, the technique is different ...

Single blade traditional razor is rarely slid in one single sweep from sideburn and down the neck or from jawline to chin. With traditional safety razors we take short and multiple strokes. Do that with a multi-blade razor and get razor burn (incidentally, as was my problem when I first came to this very forum < simply, I was doing it wrong). Multi-blade razors come into their own in terms of its technique by taking long sweeps across the face, each successive blade picking up any stragglers and the pivoting mechanisms in the handle following natural contours and skin ripples.

Single blade safety razors are a sickle. Multi-blade razors are a scythe.

Horses for courses ...

When I want perfection, then it's a multi pass DE shave - wash it all off - then run very lightly over with a Gillette Fusion and just water.

Cleans up the difficult areas + any stragglers and i end up with an absolutely perfect BBS all over shave.

No rash or burn either.

Either. M3 a bit smoother for me on my first pass. Fusion definitely more powerful on my 2nd pass (ATG) due to the extra blades. However, I would suggest trying the Hydro 5 made by Wilkinson (Schick across the pond). Very smooth on both WTG and ATG (and XTG if you do that).

... and with the Hydro 5 you can remove the gloop bar and enjoy your tradtional soap/brush lather.
