Gillette's Latest Innovation

Looks interesting. They've dropped the Fusion flexball though. I was kind of hoping this would be the Fusion flexball design with less blades and cheaper carts (at least Wilkinson Sword with their Hydro give you the option of 3 or 5 blades per cart). Looks like you'll still pay a small fortune for the carts, and the cart itself looks rather chunky for just 2 blades. Not great for getting under one's nose.

However, their new Treo razor from earlier this year is now available at a very reasonable price. It is, as many know, merely their Guard razor, but with a handle full of shave goop.
Gillette's 'Waterless by Venus' razor for women also uses the Guard cartridge.
And, like the Treo, it has a handle filled what seems to be something similar to K-Y jelly...

I think it will fit onto the Flexball handle. Other Fusion cartridges do.

I can't quite see if it's got the single blade on the back of the cartridge for shaping and sniping under the nose.

I'll give this a go it if fits on the Flexball handle. Yeah that would be good if it has the rear single blade. Wonder when we'll see these for sale

That's the trick of course. In 2 years time they will introduce the flexball in to this new 2 blade revelation claiming this that and the other, then in another 2 years after that another blade in to the equation etc etc etc. In 10 years we will have either the latest 5 blade is best razor or may be the revolutionary DE with interchangeable blades.

One thing that I find interesting is the description of how the guard relieves pressure and lifts the blades off the skin. It sounds like the ultimate in technique-free shaving.

The Trac II was truly innovative and was my first razor. Over the course of the last five decades the big "G" went full throttle adding more blades, springs, colors, angles, power sources and flex ball gyroscopes to each supposed improved razor. Instead of joining the arms race I detoured to vintage. Now all of a sudden I (we) are now lead to believe that the latest and greatest razor has no blades? Hum. Based on my limited ability at logical thinking I predict that on Thursday December 4, 2025 (of course a full moon) they at the big "G" will come full circle and introduce a newfangled single blade razor called the "Double Ring". Unfortunately for the "G" marketing folks either me (God willing) or my Grandson will still be happily using ole #23406 (1904 Double Ring). I suspect and know in my heart that around that time she ought to be just about getting broken in.
