Edwin Jagger 3ONE6

The regular Edwin Jagger DE89 is the best Brit razor ever made.! Why they launched the 3 One 6 is an enigma that will never be resolved.

I know what you mean. It soon became clear the DE89 lovers wanted a SS version of the same, and they were many. No doubt EJ considered that option and decided to do a completely different razor. Maybe they'll still do one. The 3ONE6 isn't a bad razor. I think it would have sold more with less blade gap, same blade exposure, and a full SS handle around 60g.

I'm back folks! So was looking at this as I love my DE89 and it is my everyday razor. What I take from this thread is that this razor is a bit of a disappointment, no better than the DE89 and fairly expensive seeing it is moulded and not precision machined. Therefore it is not a must have and I should stick to the DE89?

I wouldn't say it's a disappointment. There's a fair few people who highly rate it (myself included). The disappointment comes from those who wanted a stainless DE89. The 3one6 isn't that - it's a bit more assertive. It never set out to be a DE89 replacement though. I have the red anodised version and it looks stunning. It also fits together perfectly - the MIM process is capable of excellent tolerances in parts the size of razors.

If you like the shave of the Game Changer 0.84, you'll like the 3one6. If it's something like the DE89 you're after, you won't find it with this razor. The aluminium RazoRock MJ-90 could be an option for you though.

...maybe consider the .68 RR Gamechanger?; it is superb value, CNC machined, mild but efficient, daily shaver. I find Maggards MR11 handles pair very well with the head as they are lighter than any of the stainless RR handles...

Thanks guys I will see. I am not a fan of ordering from Razorock as they have crap stock flow and always seem to be sold out. Plus there is the high shipping and duty from US. I like Neil Jagger. I think he has ace customer service and the razor looks interesting. I might take the plunge then.

I think it is a lot different from the DE89 and the blade gap is much greater; see post #7. You cannot compare the two and it probably requires good technique with that large blade gap. The blade exposure looks neutral so that would make the razor less aggressive tahn that large blade gap suggests.
Do you need a CNC machined razor, probably not. Gillette never produced a CNC machined razor yet they sold miilions of DE razors. The Slim Adjustable is one of my favourites.

Even today's most in demand and en vogue artisan razor, Wolfman, which is machined from billet bar stock will have variances due to hand polishing as no human is a cyborg. In the end, despite all the "pearl clutching" and assorted "over the top" emotional gushing it shaves no better than what its respective blade gap/exposure allows, i.e., just another safety razor. You cannot and will not "buy" yourself into a great shave. The path is the same as to the London Philharmonic: good practice and lots of it. ;)

Amen I'll stick to my DE89 and Schick injector. I know what you mean about clever marketing and fetishizing “artisan”stuff like soaps. I tried all the homebrews but settled on Tabac now found none better.
