Difference between Aftershave, Eau de Toilette, and Cologne

Actually, in the UK, aftershaves include perfumes>edp>edt>edc>ef. Real eaux de cologne (2-4%) are quite rare (I have seen some Yardley's in a Boot branch once, but they were destined to women). Another thing is that (in France for instance) aftershaves (après-rasages) will only designate lotions (close to EdC) but composed of additional antiseptic agents (like the lotions by Boots or Superdrug for example). EdC are very common in France (the Roger & Gallet EdCs sold at M&S are very good and are somehow unisex), and we use them to clean/wipe after cleaning/shower.

Thank you for that. It was very interesting and informative.

As a general rule, I prefer EDTs, because they tend to last a bit longer than conventional aftershave splashes. They also cost quite a lot more too. I do use aftershaves if my skin is sore after my shave, though I am fully aware that I will need to top it up in an hour or two. I am quite happy to use both aftershave and EDTs, though. It ultimately depends on how much money I have to spend, and whether I am going out anywhere on that day.
