Rooney 2/1 Ivory Finest (22/56)
Proraso Red shaving cream
Carbon Damascus/R2
Wilkinson London Bridge (9)
Barrister & Mann Cologne Russe aftershave
Art of Shaving Sandalwood & Cypress

The brush is soft but not floppy, which was perfect for lathering the cream. The Proraso, while not having my favorite sandalwood scent, made great lather. And the razor and blade were excellent, close and smooth with wonderful audible feedback. The aftershave was not really necessary but added a nice zing, and the cologne was a very good finish.

Prep - facial scrub
razor - Yaqi Katana on a s/s ES handle
blade - Med Prep (2)
brush - Yaqi Cola 22mm synth
soap - MT - Black Beer No.1 paste
post - witch hazel
a/s - Myrsol Agua Balsamica
balm - Arran Lochranza
scent - none.

Autumn - the season of fallen leaves - fallen fruit - the dramatic shortening of the daylight hours. I find myself reaching for the Black Beer No.1 at this time of year - the dominant note of rosemary - is in itself, dark - but uplifting at the same time. Strongly herbal and medicinal. Very good slickness - during the shave - and the post rinse - second to none in my experience. A long overdue shave for me - the Katana dealt with a five day growth without hesitation - an impressive razor - by anybodies standards - even before we bring price into the equation. In my opinion - the head needs - a heavy stainless steel handle - to balance it out. The soap dovetails into the Myrsol a treat. Enjoyed that - I hope you enjoy your shaves - one and all - take care - yours - I.

A rosy razor - Stainless Mongoose
A rose thorn - Feather Super Professional
A rose by no other name - Martin De Candre Rose soap
Bugger all to do with roses brush - Silver Birch 30mm Cashmere

This shave actually took place a couple of nights back, but events in life haven't really allowed me TSR time. These past three months have been quite worrying as we have been trying to get to the bottom of a medical issue with my father. After three months of to and froing between Liverpool and Yorkshire for numerous examinations, scans, biopsies and meetings etc, my father was finally diagnosed with severe skin cancer. He recently received a date for a major operation on the 19th of this month and I can't say I have seen him happier for a long time. Even at 88 he shows great resilience and strength and if anyone is going to get him through all this, it is himself. We can only but do our bit as could be expected. And naff all to do with SOTD's altogether I really must say my wife has been a pillar of strength throughout.

It is the main reason I have been quite remote from my usual postings on this wonderful place.

Add to this my father-in-law had a fall this weekend and split his head open. No problem 'take him to A&E' they said. But as I replied, 'Hmmm, he is on warfarin and bleeding out here. He needs suturing quickly'. A whole Sunday spent in an A&E car park due to Covid restrictions and one father-in-law walks out looking like slightly 'out of the trenches'. Job done and happy to take him back home. Everyone else happy to see him back home.

So what as all this to do with shaving other than me giving my recent life story?

Probably nothing except believe me a damn fine shave really lifted my somewhat dampened spirits after all

I really felt as if I needed some of my favourite accruements which I know work and give me that feeling of elation. Everything was just perfect for one perfect shave which did exactly what I needed it to do. After all the effort for others a little bit of 'me time' went a long way to make me feel as if everything had been worth the pain and time.

Looking in the mirror all I could think was 'You ugly fucker, but a well shaved one at that and feeling a lot more me'

Even in amongst all this I still have time to leave you with some Japanese ladies and for this evening it is 'Lovebites' and the most unmetal looking vocalist you could think of. And possibly the most unmetal metal band you could think of. Still enjoy

And I wish everyone a safe and happy week ahead

Sorry to hear of your family going through all of this Chris. Hoping all goes well with your father (y)

Wed 7 SOTD
Soap RazoRock Mudder Focker
Brush New Yaqi 24mm Heavy Metal Tuxedo
Razor Parker 26C OC
Blade Wilkinson Sword 1st
Post & Aftershave
Ice Water + Special Thayers Mix
Hyaluronic + Reuzel Wood & Spice
This is a soap I initially have no good impression upon...but now...Wow! The scent to me is now so good and so unique...and amazingly long lasting. Performance is very good too...creamy and slick.
The new free brush was excellent! Good hefty, solid handle and nice soft brush with good splay & backbone.
Shave with razor paired with blade was good. Better on 2nd & subsequent passes. Ok smoothness for all 3+1passes. BBS to DFS closeness.
