Bluebeard's (had his) Revenge

For a tenner I bought a Bluebeard's Revenge Shavette, as a trial. And what a trial it is!

I have NO left-hand co-ordination, don't like the feel and hate the ease with which I open myself up.

No, I do not feel like I could give it more practice.

So, before I bin it, I have lovingly dried it and barbicided it and am willing to mail it, FOC, to the first brave soul who wishes to try one of these themselves and who DM's me an address.

P ;-)

A very kind gesture, however I had a simalar experance with a Dovo shavette and I looked like I had been in a knife attack so I will be not be sending you a DM but wish the next person who uses it more luck! :) P.

I haven't tried the Bluebeard's revenge shavette, but if you'd like to have another go and would like a mild one, the Parker SR1 and SRX are pretty mild and quite nice, too.

NOPE!!!!! Not for me I'm afraid. Did left side of my face and although I didn't open myself up I felt it could happen at any second. Will have another try tomorrow but if it's not for me I will gladly pif it.

@Drew71 You could probably try using it with an short injector blade - most shavettes like this can take one and I find it makes overly aggressive ones behave a little better.

Put a week's worth of stubble through my open-comb Merkur this a.m. No pain, no blood, no aggro at all. Makes me wonder why I EVER thought to try anything else...(currently browsing SE in my price-range...)

Not giving up on it yet. Had some good advice so far and I'm not one for quitting easily. Will have another bash with it maybe tomorrow. Looked at the blade after I finished and think it had shifted off of the pins slightly which threw off the blade alignment. Sorted it now.

If I may propose some options for you:

  • RazoRock Hawk V2 (aluminium) is a great AC SE for the money. It lets you enter that world at minimum cost.
  • RazoRock Hawk V3 (stainless steel) is the most cost effective option if you want a stainless AC SE. It's also a great razor. Many folks like the A plate but I get on really well with the standard.
  • Supply SE injector - a fantastic razor in the injector format. Available new for under £150 or you could ask if anyone is willing to sell one on the BST.
  • Schick Type L - vintage injector but I really enjoyed the shave with mine yesterday. Can be had for ~£25 second hand on eBay.

Stick with it mate.

I tried straights twice in the past and other than all the faff which goes with them my worse bit was technique. Too much blood spilt in the name of learning.

So I tried the shavette route and many thanks to @culcreuch and some sound advice I seem to be slowly winning. In this case it is a Kamisori style which I seem happier with as I don't have to figure in what to do with folding handles. They throw me off for some reason.

It isn't going to happen overnight that is for sure and if you can achieve a single part of your face with some kind of success then it is a step in the right direction. Then give yourself a pat on the back for even getting that far.

Since the shavette I have also acquirred a straight which I am trying to get the bravado to attempt in the very near future. It has a folding handle. Eeeeeeek

These guys on here give great advice and worth reading, inwardly digesting and then easing in to the practice.

Alternatively get an SE and wave goodbye to most other forms of shaving

Aaahhhhhh Zen
