Worth the difference?

I've set my sights on an adjustable razor and narrowed it down to two. I currently have a Rockwell 6c but I'd like a razor that I can adjust without changing the plates.

With a bit of backpay due at the end of this month, nows the time to think about it.

I'm looking at a Parker Variant or a Rex Ambassador. The difference in price is the issue.

In any normal case id save the money and go for the Parker...but when I started wet shaving, the one razor I always wanted and hoped would be my holy grail razor was the Rex Ambassador. Is it worth it?

Disclaimer: This isn't about saving the money. The difference id save by buying the Parker will more than likely be spent on other wet shaving filthiness :ROFLMAO:

The Rex is a brilliant razor but is assertive even on the lower settings. You'll easily master it but it's worth knowing what to expect. What do you currently shave with?

Majority of the time I'm between plate 4 and 6 on the Rockwell 6c. Merkur 34c I have is great but i find it mild. Only had one shave with the Gillette King C today.....and thats my full and complete razor collection.

I think you'll get on fine with the Rex. This is of course caveated as the opinion of a stranger on the internet but if you're not looking for something mild, I'm sure you'll get what you're after from the Rex.

I think you should also buy a Progress. Awesome razors. I've never tried the Parker. I think there's a Progress currently on the BST.

Read plenty of good reviews about the progress as well but I don't know...aesthetically I just don't think its a nice razor. Just my personal opinion of course. I seen that in the BST thread...what I really need is some1 to sell a Rex in there...for £32 as well :ROFLMAO:

Try looking at the Progress through a different lens - it's a design that's stood the test of time for ~60 years. The plastic knob was a luxury in the day. I like the classic look of it and owning something new that's based on a classic design. Aesthetically, avoid comparing it to modern offerings - most of which look the same really anyway.

Yea maybe you're right. I just can't take to it for some reason. One of those things...I want to like it and I'm sure its a fantastic bit of kit that would provide years of great shaves..I just can't come round to it.

The Rex is brilliant and so beautifully constructed. (only wish i could take it apart to clean) Highly recommend. The Parker Varient is good too but i have found it to be less consistent in the blade feel (Im not sure if mine has an alignment issue). I do much prefer the Rex worth every penny.

Worth every penny is a line I was hoping someone would use :)
