Show your Panama hat

Panama hats is such a fascinating subject. But where and when do most people actually wear their hats?
It's a real investment obtaining a good quality one and obviously one would not want it collecting dust c/w the occasional spray or mist stream to keep it subtle; so when and where do you wear it AND what reactions do you get when you wear it?
I wear mine in the summer, at the races especially Goodwood, and when doing the usual events of horse shows and stately home visits. I wear mine even in spring. My head goes lobster red even with scalp spf lotion due to a lack of coverage.

I just found a UK brand named Hicks and Brown based in Suffolk, their Panama at £80.00 is a lot more than a Failsworth at around £50.00. I may compare their Fedora's to other brands.

I have looked at Hicks and Brown, they appear to do one style and I personally would need to change the current headband to a single block colour. Failsworth only sell to the trade and I am finding their Panamas difficult to locate. At the moment the Borges and Scott seems to be a front runner of the "budget type panamas for me.

The Hat Shop in York sells Failsworth.

Well, after many hours research (thank you to many of the above posters / contributors) and considering panama hats from: Lock & Co; Christys' of London; Bates; Olney Hats: US Panama Hats Direct ($155.00; £125.00 +P&P, VAT & Import duty - warning! don't use their cut out size band, it is totally useless and inaccurate); US Gamboa Premium Panama Hats (£308.00 +P&P, VAT & Import duty); US The Panama Hat Company - fantastic site, extremely good information; all of the other producers, mentioned in the posts above, I have now taken the plunge and obtained a beautiful Panama Hat based on the the information posted by Frankie G on 15.02.2020 (Thank you FG) which is the Borges & Scott Signature Panama Fedora. Taking all things into consideration, this specific hat was actually whittled down to my front runner and then I remembered Frankie's post. I therefore went for a second at £31.95 and I am extremely pleased with my purchase. Panama Hats are indeed a fascinating subject and there is a lot to learn, but when all is said and done I personally could not warrant spending more than say £150.00 for such a purchase, when the likely hood of me wearing the hat (or indeed any hat for that matter) is very limited. BUT, I am planning a trip around India, but not in the foreseeable future, where the hat will be of great value!
Needless to state, I am very happy with my purchase and at £31.95 for a quality panama hat, must be considered to be a bargain. Thanks again to all of the advice gained within the above contributions and posts; hats off to yer!.

I like to buy a hat every year, and I like to support my local storekeepers. My visit to The Hat Shop York yielded not another Panama, but a Stetson Toyo Trilby. This is straw and cotton. I think It's the right model below. The missus said you better to book a holiday to wear it, Scarborough here we come.

Toyo is a straw and the band is 100% cotton. I really like it, I may get a Straw Boater and a Linen flat cap too...

It's not a fine weave or expensive. Would anyone notice if I wore a fine Montecristi?
Which is a fine Panama weave, not a cigar.
