I was thinking about the Pils 101 NE and then was drifting towards the Blackbird (Safety Bar).

I love the Feather AS D2 with a sharp blade, so was thinking that the Pils may be worth a go; but also enjoy the Blackland razors - I didn't get on with the Dart to start with, but now with a steeper angle that's working out well?

All thoughts gratefully appreciated :)

The PILS is the best razor I've ever used, it's very efficient but also extremely comfortable. It is angle sensitive but being used to the Feather that shouldn't be a problem.

I've never used a Blackland owing to their reputation for being aggressive.

@chris.hale Hi, Chris; I'm getting variable results with the Pils - still enjoying my shaves - if you don't mind me asking, in terms of geting the angle sweet spot, how would you describe that?

Thanks,

Chris

Hi Chris. Go shallow, handle about 30 degrees down from horizontal works for me but you'll know when you've got it right. I find if you deviate too much it won't punish you but it'll sulk and not cut properly.

Let us know how you get on.

@chris.hale Hi, went with 30 degree on the handle today; this was slightly steeper that my usual angle with the Pils - I got a better shave, much more audible feedback; I am guessing that previously I was shaving with to shallow an angle as the handle was higher - towards my ear (if that makes sense).

A three pass today - close to a BBS finish.

The Pils is a great razor - out of those I have it is possibly the least efficient if you don't get the sweet spot on the angle.

Thanks again, its good to benefit from the experiences of others!

Glad it's helped. :) My two favourite razors are the PILS and Feather AS-D2, both of which require attention to angle to get the best results but they're so smooth when you get it right.

Can you tell any meaningful difference between the AS-D2 and a Gillette Tech razor as regards the actual shave?

I can't speak for the Pils but I will say the blackbird is a very class act. It may be aggressive but the way it delivers is as smooth as they come. Easy with the angle of attack and very difficult to get this aspect wrong with the head being angled along the leading edges. 24 hours later I still feel as though my face is passable in terms of being 'clean' and free of fluff. In terms of being an ugly sod I still look the same but that is more to do with nature and genetics than it has shaving.
