How long does Barbacide last, I actually mean if you dispense some into a jar and soak a razor, how long can I keep the jar with the BBC in it...
TIA

A new mix of barbicide will last for a week. I do a mix of 946 millitres of cold water to 59 millitres ( 6.5 caps full) of undiluted barbicide, then i soak my razors, nail clippers, combs for ten minutes. After that i give them a rinse with cold water then dry them off with a clean cloth or tissue.
Hope this helps. Regards. B (y)

Thanks, I did'nt know it was diluted, I thought it was used straight from bottle to container .

Would boiling water not do the same thing?
Probably would but you need time to be effective. Laboratories and Hospital theatres use autoclaves which use pressurised steam at a temp of 121C for 15 minutes to reach sterility. You would need longer if boiling a razor in a saucepan. I prefer something which is less brutal to the razor with less chance of deformation or plating damage

Fact sheet
Link not working.screenshot instead.
Update. It's a salon fact sheet. I've deleted it as not helpful.
Basically make sure you clean the razor thouroughly THEN submerge for 10mins in solution and rinse off making sure all barbicide is washed away. Putting dirty tools in it only contaminates the solution.

My British bought bottle claims 60ml in one litre of water for a "hospital strength" solution.
It also says to use new solution daily or more often. They would, wouldn't they?
I make fresh solution when a pass around razor comes in and keep it until it leaves a few days later.
I actually keep it longer for use on vintage razors I acquire. They get the most rigorous scrubbing beforehand anyway.

Unless you are running a barbers, or sharing your shaving equipment, I remain cynical on this obsession with Barbicid. If you cut yourself, it's your blood, and your germs, your body is clever enough to know how to deal with it. A run under a hot tap, with some soap if you'r fussy, is more than enough. In 40 years, the only time I have ever disinfected razor equipment is when I sell it on...
