Replacement for broken razor

My eldest son just told me he'd dropped his DE89 on a hard floor on the trip back from his shared student bathroom (no storage so he has to carry everything)

It sounds like the threaded rod has snapped off inside the handle so I'm thinking about a replacement razor for him? He already has a 6C so this will be a backup.

He's only 19 with sparse growth and I was thinking about providing him one from among my razors?

What does the hive mind think of these ideas?

Merkur 34C, Gillette Tech or a Rocket, the new Wilkinson Sword TTO?

The Wilkinson TTO is a mild shaver that might suit his light growth. The handle is really quite long, could take some getting used to
I would say the 34C should fit the bill. They're solidly built, so may fare well should it be accidentally dropped.

I might give him a Tech and the WS to try?

I'm trying really hard to get him into his shaving but it's a chore for him. Saying that he's face lathering with a Stirling soap I “decanted” into a pot at the moment and he's asked me for some more :)

Sounds about correct. I've lost two so far. One much the same and dropped, the other being over enthusiastic with tightening a SS handle.

You sheared a SS shank? What were you using to tighten it up? One of these?

You forgot the "cheater" bar. :p
He's a sailor, wouldn't surprise me in the least, he's not used to fine engineering. He used to captain a ship that basically jump started oil rigs, he probably learned how to lean on a wrench from a roughneck. And then stole the roughnecks wrench.

Oh look, I found a picture of him observing the technique, and working out how best to purloin the big spanner...

He's rocking the dungaree look, makes him look like he works for a living... :p;)
