Portuguese creams

Right, this is what I've bought whilst in the small fishing village of Alvor. Appreciate the Palmolive isn't Portuguese. Dark wooden box made by a local & found in charity shop. Think I'll line it with felt & it seems a lovely fit for my Gillette FatBoy. Antiga Barbearia box is empty as the O Melhor cream came with it. So I now need to buy the cream to match the box :(

Nice box - looks like it could be meant for export.

When I was in Porto in July was hoping to get my hands on some Top Secret and Confindencia. No such luck and Porto is the Portugal's second city. Even Corte Ingles, the big Spanish department store there, tried to sell me some French product. So much for promoting the local products.

Great haul!

Just returned from Porto and had a bit of a problem buying Portuguese shaving stuff there. Claus Porto has a new store, which is very high end, however it seemed to be geared more toward their fine soaps. Did buy a tube of Musgo Real but you can buy that in a lot of places. I was looking for not so premium brands, like Top Secret, Confidencia or Lavanda. What they wanted to sell me was the Spanish La Toya. For some reason it may be easier buying Portuguese creams from Gifts & Care here in Spain.

Porto is a nifty city and which I had visited it a lot sooner.

You should return and visit Balada da Sorte! Hehe at least now you have an excuse to return...

And great haul Shaun! O Melhor is a great cream while a bit overpriced. Lavanda Veleiro and other mid range creams are getting harder to find. Clarel stores still have Lavanda but Veleiro is getting very hard to find it is rumoured that it will return latter in the year with a new packaging and/or formulation...

I was really, and I mean REALLY surprised by Lavanda. I pretty much stopped using creams a while back, preferring hard soaps, but on my trip to Lisbon picked up a couple of tubes, since they don't do triple milled, it seams.

Well, that Lavanda is quite something. Lathers fantastically and gives everything in the shaving department you might ask for - glide, cushion, protection, skincare (more or less). I love the smell too.
However, beware of Couto - that piece of canned crap won't even lather! I mean, I ended up taking double the usual amount of product this morning when I decided to give it a go - and still nothing! Lavanda saved the day though.

Couldn't find any other creams, so just got some bath soaps. O Melhor is fantastic, although heavily overpriced. Would love to try their cream too.

Algarve, Will be challenging

1) ask the locals where you can find Portuguese traditional drugstores (“drogarias”) easier to find there.

2) Find in google maps a “pingo doce” supermarket near you where you can buy lavanda cream

Try also other major supermarkets (continente or jumbo) near you but most likely you will be limited to palmolive cream

Even in Lisbon is a headache to find traditional shaving products, only on traditional drugstores with some luck

I order everything from Spain

In most supermarkets traditionally you will find Palmolive and other cream (typically Denim and/or Nivea).
Sometimes you have also the supermarket's own brand, generally a generic shaving cream. Almost always it is made in Spain by Lascaray and will be similar to LEA shaving cream.

"Lavanda" shaving cream was present in Pingo Doce supermarkets, but it was an eventual sale and I don't know if it is still be available there.

Yes, Skino is their own brand. I'm not sure who makes that one.
A few years ago it was made by Nally (the portuguese factory who makes Men's Estoril Sports Line), but nowadays it can be Lascaray from Spain.

At Pingo Doce, Palmolive cream is nearly always present, and sometimes they have Nivea cream too.
Sometimes they stock Lavanda, but only in seasonal campaigns.
