Can you name anything that youngsters of today won't know?

It was generally used for bills/receipts, to indicate the cost of a single item, where several have been supplied. e.g.

4 lightbulbs @ 56p......£2.24

It literally meant 'at a cost of'.

Ahhh ... but my native language is not English :)

We used: 4 gloeilampen à 50ct ... f 2,--

I don't know what the @ sign would be needed for in Dutch.
