Which pre shave oil?

Evening everyone,

I have read through a fair few posts here and I'm still stuck for a pre shave oil. This is for a relaxing Sunday shave routine where the process I am aiming for will be something similar too:

1. Moisturise
2. Hot towel
3. Pre shave oil
4. Hot towel
5. Lather

The aim is to find an oil that will settle into the skin and add another level to moisturising the hair and skin. Ideally it'd smell nice too but if not, I can scent the towels so feel free to send any home recipes my way :)

BBA is the best pre / shave oil I have had the pleasure of using and Will continue to use in the future. You can buy cheaper and some people like to use argan oil , the choice is yours, don't forget when you are looking at price....a little goes a long way. :)

Really that good? I agree that price isn't that big a deal when it comes to quality product. Just a bit wary of jumping in at that price when I haven't tried anything else. I wouldn't really know how it compares. And as I'm writing this I'm realising that regardless, I will probably have to just start with the £1 wilko option and take it from there :D

Yes I understand, I suppose you need to buy and use inferior products before you can really appreciate what a quality product is. Just write it down somewhere and when you're ready you will know what to buy. :)

What happened to YMMV? Is there no competition? One oil to rule them all?

YMMV is taken as read at the end of everything I say, after all whatever I say is only my opinion and others may hold a different one so very much YMMV :) please note I did not say BBA shave oil was the best, I said it was the best Ive had the pleasure of using.....so YMMV need not apply because I'm not saying it's the best ,only the best I've used.:) imo!

That is a solid point :D I guess I was hoping that there would be more variety when it comes to pre shave and that you would maybe have another contender. You seem to know a lot about a lot that goes on around here and consistently give solid answers so I respect your opinion...

And it has been noted - Blademonkey loves a bit of BBA pre shave.

I've tried others and they all sat on top of my skin and made a mess of my brushes however if you want another contender then argan oil is well liked my many here and can be found in high street stores or online. :) so that's two contenders for you to think about, the others I've used and found to be rubbish I would not waste your time in recommending them to you.

So you use oil on its own?

Farzad Salehi uses it as part of the pre shave. If it works for him, I'm involved.

When I do......definitely. I see no need for soap/cream on top at all. Dermalogica is also another good one.
The three I mention are not too thin or thick. The Zirh is most probably the best and sometimes you can pick it up in TKMax for about £3.00 it normally costs about £8.00

^ this

Got to sample the BBA pre-shave oil & very impressed. Not the same stuff at all.

I honestly wouldn't bother with the cheapies.
Although in value for money terms a £12-15 uk artisan soap (p&b, nannies, OSP or wickhams) will improve your shave waaaay more than adding a £24 shave oil to a Wilkinson sword blue bowl soap.
