Special Correspondents (2016)
One of those films that you can on while you're doing something else.
Mildly entertaining, mildly funny and a mild 5/10.

'Star Wars Episode VII The Force Awakens' ... a good 8/10.

I'm not "into" Star Wars. I don't think I've even seen the other three (the later, first three). I saw 'Star Wars' back in the day and 'Empire Strikes Back', possibly seen ' Return of the Jedi' but can't remember.

Anyway, 'The Force Awakens' is a fun romp. As a straight-up film it works. It's got all the elements of a decent Sci-Fi film coupled with some drama. As part of an epic, it's a clever handover - here are some new folks, here are the old folks, look how washed up they are and look how the new folks are sliding into position. Yeah, it worked.

I likened it to Ballet, how the older dancers hold non-dancing roles, like the King, the Queen, that sort of thing. They're on stage, but it's the younger dancers that hold the key roles. The old folks were all there in the film, just not holding the main roles. Long cameos, if you like.

So, all handed over ... I guess there's be a good few more to come.

Enjoyed. And actually, it perked my interest to watch the others.

I think it's pretty good too. I wasn't that keen on 1,2,3 the computer generated stuff was over the top for me. While the new offering has plenty, it's just not as over the top.

It did all slide in very well as you have said.

Actually, one disappointment with 'The Force Awakens' was the hyperspeed effect in the Millennium Falcon.

In 'TRON', the light cycles had a breathtaking effect for its day; the hyperspeed effect also. In 'TRON Legacy', they did that one better - the lightcycles were stunning and then they went yet one better with the light gliders.

That hyperspeed effect is a signature - it could have been modernised.

Its a well know fact that you must be aged 16-35 to save the galaxy, pensioners need not apply.

Yoda was about 874 years old when he kicked ass versus Count Dooku, rumour had it he collected the state pension on Dagobah. But that's different cos he ain't human, and he was Jedi.

Eddie the Eagle : good movie, I was a bit shocked by the way the establishment (the British Olympic committee) tried to expel him because he hadn't the right background (school, social milieu, etc.)

I watched it as a metaphor for escaping religious and political indoctrination, it was quite good on that level - but as an action film? I agree, very toshy.
