Should be here this week, may just put it away for gifting.

I think the Submariner (or the Sea Dweller) would be my grail watch, but I'd have to go for a non-date version as I dislike the magnifier.

I've heard that before about the magnification data window, I've also heard people describe it as unbalancing the watch's symmetry. FYI, the Sea Dweller has a date function without the bubble.

My last watch purchase doesn't have a date function and I am really missing it! My next two planned watches also don't have date functions, but I'm now considering if I can live without it.

Aha, that's good to know about the Sea Dweller. TBH I doubt I'll ever be in a position to own one, but maybe one day.

I like that the Shark Diver has the date but doesn't lose the 3 o'clock marker, although I probably would have put it at 3:30 instead. I have a Vostok Amphibia too but the poor thing doesn't get much wrist time, I must try it on a decent strap one day instead of the cheap silicone dust magnet.

I just Googled the Helson Shark Diver..... Damn! That is a good looking watch.

I bought a Rolex GMT Master 1 in 1988, brand new from a Rolex main dealer. If memory serves me correctly I paid circa £1800. I returned it to Rolex HQ in Bromley ( I believe ) as it was gaining approx 8-9 seconds a day. It was returned after about 3 weeks after having been adjusted. Quite why a brand new watch would need adjusting despite the so-called stringent testing after it was made, I wasn't told. As it was still gaining approx 6 seconds a day, I sent it straight back. After another 3 weeks, it was returned but was still gaining several seconds a day. One day approx 3 months later, I noticed that the triangular pointer on the end of the red hand had fallen off and was jammed between the minute & second hands. Back to Rolex again. A few months after this, the strap would undo itself whenever I clenched my fist. Back it went only for Rolex to try and flog me a different strap with a locking clasp. By this time, quite rightly, I decided to get rid of the piece of shit less than a year after purchase. I replaced it with a plastic Casio for about twenty quid which kept perfect time, didn't stop working & had the added advantage of staying on my wrist. I've since moved on to a Traser ( Luminox ) which I am more than happy with.

Have a similar story. Bought new, kept gaining seconds. The jeweler, was a friend and, sent it back for correction 4x. The 4th time he told me that the factory rep told him to tell me that a Rolex was a Chronometer, and if i wanted a watch that told perfect time to buy a Timex!!!

That's why I prefer my Omegas over Rolex for day-to-day wear. For more formal occasions nothing tops my Patek Philippe Calatrava.

Hi Chris, thought I'd share a funny story with you. Like yourself, I prefer the no-date version as I consider the dial to be more balanced...so sold my sub and went to the store to pick up the ND SubC...walked out with another SubC date. I'm just glad my wife never realized the switcheroo or else I'd be in deep *&(*&*()!!

Not an everyday watch wearer, but when I do....
