I was on here yonks ago. I’ve spent a few years with a beard and now I’m down to a goatee… with the rest smooth-shaved.

I must admit I’ve gone over to the dark side with a Gillette ProGlide… the collection of vintage and modern DE razors has all gone.

I don’t know how long I’ll be here, but it’s interesting to catch up.

Cheers, guys.

If I did go back to DE it would have to be another Merkur adjustable… or one of the pimped up versions. I used to have a Digress, but I’ve also seen an Opgress for sale… similar idea. But the pro-glide is a really easy cop-out and finally dispelled the notion I’ve had for the last half century that I actually have “sensitive skin”. I know… I’ve clearly been doing DE thing wrong.

I’m more interested in soap/gel/whatever. I’m currently a fan of King of Shaves Shave serum. It’s a revelation but messes my sink up something rotten. Wouldn’t rule out another Muhle synthetic brush and trying out some lovely soaps… just for the sheer smelliness of it.

Welcome back Wiff!

And a big welcome back from the Yonks. Wherever that is.

I am sure you will soon be back in to the world of DE's and other wonderful razors. But mainly you shaved off your beard. Oh how we do dislike beards. Well, I do

Enjoy your TSR life once again

A Warm Welcome

Pip! Pip! I shave most days with a cartridge - currently, yes, enjoying the Gillette's ProGlide as well as Wilkinson Sword's Hydro 5 format which has a peculiar benefit. You can snap off the gloop strip, making it eminently usable with more enjoyable soaps and brush lather.
Hi Paul, can I please ask - what are the benefits of the WS Hydro 5? I've never tried a 5 blade before, and my curiosity had been itched.

Versus GIllette Fusion 5, I find the blades smoother and far more consistent across 10-15 shaves. The main benefit is, unlike the Gillette Fusion 5 where if you want to do a little shaping you flip the cartridge around and use a single edge at the back; with the Wilkinson Sword, you flip the entire gloop strip back and use the now unhindered front of the cartridge. Of course, folks like me that abhor gloop strips (and the one on the Wilkie is abundant and long-lasting, certainly more so than GIllette) you can actually just prise it off! Then you can enjoy the cartridge shave and your lovely soap/brush combo lather without glooping it up.

Generally, the marketed benefit of the five blade format is in reality just on-upmanship from the Gillette Mach 3 to the Wilkinson Sword Quattro to the Gillette Fusion 5. Both have five blades. You'll find the shave simply idiot-proof and a flawless finish. Use long contour-hugging strokes rather than multiple shorter swipes. It's a scythe, rather than the sickle.
