What are you listening to?

Let's Dance by David Bowie

A good foot-tapper by Mr. Bowie. I've always loved this song. It was another one that I remember buying on vinyl back in the day. I bought the album too.

Tricky
Maxinquaye
1995

Paul.

One of the great UK albums of the 90's and dub/hiphop (what genre is that album? I have no idea!) which seemed to exist in it's own time and space before and after it was released. I read a really good new review of it in the last few months.

"The crux of Tricky’s early music is the combination of his own deep-smoked vocals and the wispy, melancholy delivery of Martina Topley-Bird, a teenager who Tricky met when she was sitting on a local wall, drunk on cider, after finishing her exams. That chance meeting alone was essential to the genesis of Maxinquaye."

This was my favourite track of his

I thought the vocals from Terry Hall add something to the Tricky ones, difficult to say what exactly though.

I remember Tricky also appeared in a Tool video.

"We are eternal, all this pain is an illusion"

You know more about Tricky than I do!
It's just an album that stands out for me as one I enjoyed when it came out and still enjoy it now.
Thanks for all the info, I now know more about Tricky than I did! :)

Hello Paul,

If I'm honest I don't know much about him, but looking back it was released to 1994/1995, were great years for albums. I was a teenager and remember some of those releases just as I was getting into music and some of them blew my mind at my time, and looking back some of those albums have aged really well. Portishead and Tricky were a few releases I remember getting from the library and copying them to tape and they still have a special place in my heart many years later!
