Hair Loss

As well as my existing Pumpkin seed oil capsules and Saw Palmetto tablets, I have ordered the following supplements:

Korean Ginseng
Beta-Sitosterol
Green Tea Extract
Pygeum
Magnesium

I will also give Magnesium oil a go...
There is also Horsetail and Red Clover.

Before the pandemic I used to go to the barbers every 3 weeks for a grade 2 buzz cut on my balding head. During lockdown I started cutting my own hair using clippers, gradually getting shorter to prolong the time for another trim but to be honest it was a hassle cleaning the clippers, floor and myself up afterwards, not to mention squaring my neckline. About a month ago I decided to shave it with my Vector which did a very good job. I have since bought a Leaf which is an amazing head shaver and I shave my head every couple of days. I did feel slightly self conscious at first but it soon wears off. I now love the feeling of splashing on some aftershave and some balm after shaving. I kind of feel scruffy now if I have more than 2 days growth. I know some people are petrified of losing their hair but if it’s going I think embracing is the way to go. It’s always easier to row with the current than against.
I cut my own hair NeilJ using Wahl Professional Clippers, which I must have had for over 30 odd years. I have carried out many styles over the years and have now settled on a No 6 for the back and sides and a go over with the scissors on the little bit I have on the top. I may take this shorter, usually do if/when I am in hot climes.
My cuts take me around 1 hour and 10 minutes to do them properly, because you have to keep the hair damp and go over it quite a few times to get it even and you are quite right that the cleaning up (of the clipper and hairs in the WHB and the floor etc) takes some time to again do properly; I like things to be neat and tidy and my partner would not be too pleased having to tidy up after me if it was done half heartedly. I must admit I believe that I can now do my hair better (or more to my liking) than a barber and now haircuts are around the £16.00 mark I am also saving a few bob in the process.

Same. I bought Wahl clippers in the mid 90s and I have done my own ever since. Recently bought some "Limural" cordless ones which make it even easier. They come with combs 6-1 and a separate T-trimmer. So if I want to go a bit less extreme I can grade from 6 to pretty much 0, but I like it neat so I usually go 4-1 using all combs and the lever to blend between long and short versions of each comb. Yeah I have a typical male pattern bald bit on the top at the back which makes me think going shorter would be better but the Mrs is against it.

Yes, I think sometimes the really extreme short crop cut makes some people (probably including me) look too aggressive, probably depends on bone structure / face or something like that and £16.00 a go is lot of loot, if you don't have a lot (of hair or cash) to play with in the first instance!

I have started massaging my hair with a scalp massager and applying two hair treatments- The Inkey List caffeine stimulating scalp treatment with Redensyl and Stemgro Trichology deep scalp follicle boost with Capila Longa.

My paternal grandfather had extremely thinning hair when he died. The fact that he used to plaster his hair with Brylcreem for most of his life probably didn't help. My uncle went bald at a relatively early age, and my father's hair was never particularly lustrous. My brother started to go bald in his 30s, and now resembles a cue ball with a five o'clock shadow. So, I am the only man in my immediate family who still has most of their hair, and my hair is still fairly thick, though a lot greyer than it used to be.

So, there is some history of male baldness in my family, but it doesn't seem to have affected me very much. I always have my hair cut fairly short, anyway, and I don't think about baldness. It doesn't worry me very much. My brother and I will look like Right Said Fred if I end up losing my hair as well.

Somehow at mid 50s I still have most of my hair and it's still the same colour. I certainly don't have a low stress life, so I can only attribute it to having no kids or favourable genetics. Ironically I've worn it pretty short for most of my life, I start with the clippers on #4 'long' on the fade lever on top and work down to #1 so when the old spam doughnut gets a bit too big I've warned SWMBO that the lot will go. Then I'll have an excuse to buy a Leaf.

They supplement box has tripled in size since then. I would say so. I have hair where there wasn't before. But it's a long process.

Good to read.

I have hair in places where I didn't before, but that's largely on my shoulders!

Saj recommended some oils for my beard, and I made a blend of a few things (neem, almond, coconut, castor) which aside from using for my beard, I have been massaging some into my scalp every other day.

I've not much hair loss to notice right now, but a few months back pretty much everytime I ran my fingers through my hair I'd have a lot of hairs in my hands, especially when in the shower. Ditto for my beard as well, I'd comb out lots of hairs, and always have an itchy face. Not much of that to speak of since I started using the grim smelling oil mix. The oil blend smells foul (that's the neem!) but I'm convinced in the 2 months I have been using it my scalp and my hair is the healthiest it's ever been.

Cheers @saj1985!

black seed oil and jamaican black castor oil are two that are recommended for stronger thicker and and hair growth, check it out on youtube and youll see loads of women using it on their 'edges' to grow them back or thicken them

thing is some of these really good oils do smell but the trick is use essential oils like peppemint, rosemary etc as apart from their beneficial qualities they add a nice smell to the oils too
