SOTD : Saturday 19th March - Friday 25th March 2022.

Prep: Hot shower, 50% Aleppo

Post: Home made skin tonic

Shave: The first synthetic brush I have enjoyed using. Dense knot with substantial backbone, creamy lather, and much more than I expected from a 23mm knot (then again, it is Blackland...).

The 1924 was a first, too. I know enough about vintage GEM razors to start cautiously, but the first thing I noticed is that the construction of the 'Shovel Head' acts like a feedback speaker – every stroke was met with a satisfying rasp. I did a standard three pass shave, with an added ATG pass on my neck, and by the time I was approaching the final rinse, I felt quite confident with it.

The only ER GEM razor still on my list is the 1914, and one of those is in the post. So far, I've found the 1912 and 1914 impressive, and I'm fond of the Micromatic Bullet-tip, too.

Some days are still Sabre days, but the relatively modest cost of a vintage GEM razor collection is definitely worth it, in my opinion, considering the quality and variety of choice you get in return.

The Clog-Pruf is my favorite Micromatic, followed by the original Micromatic. That looks like a square comb Shovel, you should get a round comb as well, and you will enjoy the '14, great razor!

I definitely need a shave, so I’ll be using the Envoy and continue with the Voskhod, which worked well previously. I had forgotten how strong the scent from the TOBS Sandalwood is, but in a good way.

I also thought I would fling in the watch of the day, my Explorer, to keep the watch/shaving and the shaving/watch crowds happy. :)

Stay safe and enjoy your shaves.

Razor: Rex Envoy
Blade: Voskhod (2)
Soap: TOBS Sandalwood
Brush: Simpson Trafalgar T3
Pre-shave: Proraso Green
Post-shave: TBD
Bowl: Captain’s Choice Copper
WOTD: Rolex Explorer

EDIT: Just had the shave and it was very enjoyable. The TOBS is very good soap and I matched it with some Lucky Tiger lotion as it compliments the sandalwood very well. You do have to take your time with the Envoy, it will bite you if you don't pay attention and use good technique. There's less blade feel than from an R41 but I would say it's more prone to cause weepers and nicks. Definitely not a daily shaver for me, but as I don't shave daily, that's okay. I bought it, looking for more aggression on R6 from the Rockwell but less that the R41 and it's there.

The Grosvenor 404mixed
Lea Classic soap
Schick E2- Canada
Schick Chick ( 1 )
Lea Classic A/S Lotion

After Two days using a PAL Injectomatic it just had to be my Canadian E2.I loaded it with a fresh “Chick” which I do not think I have used in this Razor. This combo really worked and I had no problems getting a rather Top Notch finish.

Rooney Stubby 3 Porcelain Finest (26/54)
Ethos Grooming Vanilla Safi shaving soap
Paradigm Diamondback 2020
Wilkinson 'Light Brigade' (16)
Cigar Aficionado aftershave

A wonderful shave, even with the well-used blade. There may have been some controversy about Paradigm's business practices on other shaving sites, but I don't think anyone has made better razors, IMHO. And the vanilla and tobacco scents went together beautifully.

Firstly i would like to thank Simon @Scorpio93 for the opportunity to try such a wonderful razor.
The shave was absolutely top drawer & a bbs was achieved without trying really.
The Craftsmanship & work that’s went in to producing these razors are definitely up with the best but i guess that shows in the price tag.
This was my first real go with a se give or take using the one blade which is a se obviously but more of a cartridge type than a proper se.
For me the shave was issue free, i got the angle right from first stroke although i did have a slight bit of trouble under the nose but managed just fine.
i’ll use the razor for another few shaves before sending it on.

The soap for me is another class act and the only real reason i bought it was because one of the scents is Iris which was my mothers name.
The actual Scent is based on
Creed Irish tweed which was the preferred aftershave of the likes of
Clint Eastwood, Cary Grant, Frank Sinatra and iv just brought it down to my level
Stig of the dump :ROFLMAO:
Anyway another absolute class Shave
Thank You Simon
Stay Safe Boys
